Okay...first time flyer with dh, ds (5) & dd (4) we are going in December from the 23rd to Jan 3rd. I have been watching and prices just go up up up...which I've seen most of you on these boards think this is the new trend. I do understand this is the holiday season but having never flown before and really no one in my family travels so I have no first hand experience to turn to - so I turn here.

I see Spirit has now opened dates into my time frame...I can get a decent deal if I shift my dates 2 days more but I don't even know if that works with schedules and hotel reservations. Most prices I'm finding are $300.00 pp/rt which I think is way high...but will I be able to do better?

I found today for AA $1234.80 for the 4 of us round trip which would be the dates I want...maybe not times but dates anyway. Should I go ahead and do that or should I wait on a deal...with the 6 month mark just around the corner I'm not sure what to do.

We are flying from Michigan so probably Detroit to MCO...I've looked into Flint or Lansing but can't for more $$.

so really I'm asking is this an okay deal for this time of year and current flying trends should I do it...wait it out?? Please any advice will help so much!

Thanks a "million"

Yes, the fares are going up. With the cost of fuel being what it is, most airlines aren't able to stay with those $150 r/t fares. Even the 'budget' airlines are getting pricey. I don't think we're going to see too many under $200 fares anymore. If I were you, I would take a fare that I could live with, and if it goes down, get a credit voucher. Travel at this time of year can be more expensive to start with. Sorry I don't have better advice.

I've been shopping and it looks like most fares are $75 to $100 more than they were last year... major bummer.

However, I would check out AirTran... sign up so they notify you when they have sales. They just ended one that was about 250 pp to most locations (I think they advertised $109.00 one way, but with taxes and all...). They usually do something every month.

Last fall I booked AirTran for $59.00 pp/ow... I wasn't planning to go to Disney until I saw that price! (Hard to say if they would do anything similar this year.)

We are going west this year and even SW's cheapest internet rate is at 150pp/ow, if anyone knows of any deals west please let me know (I did sign up for "Bing").

Thanks for those who have replied...I'd love to hear from other experienced flyers as to what they think of the recent price trends. I was thinking I'd wait it out but now I just don't know...$1234.80 is more than I planned on spending but not more than I could spend...kwim?

btt for more to reply

thanks again

Take these flights. You are flying over one of the busiest travel weeks all year. Even without gas prices, these flights will continue to go up as other people finalize their Xmas trips to WDW.

$1234 is only $308 per person. Given the time you are going and the way the market has been, I would take these flights if they are times you are happy with.

I am going Dec 9-16. My ideal flight times on NWA are sitting at $419 pp, which I would never pay. I would be encouraged to see $308 and I am flying at a slower time for FL. Of course, I am flying out of cursed MSP, but I know prices will only go up for you just because of your dates.

Thanks...that is what I was thinking too...also, does anyone know with AA if the fare did go down (some miracle) can I get a credit voucher?
