Any recommendations?
Do I need to book ahead (arv 3/14, dep 3/19).
I'd prefer to not pay an arm and a leg.

We go every year and fly into John Wayne and we always use Super Shuttle we book online and prepay including the tip and it is a great service and very convenient. I highly recommend them and enjoy your trip.

I second super shuttle. Google for discount codes and you can get round trip for 15-20 dollars a person.

I booked with Super Shuttle.
Maybe I could have shopped and gotten a slightly better rate ($41.20rt) but only by a buck or three, not worth the hassle.

Thanks a bunch.

I'll need a shuttle as well. If we book Super Shuttle, how do we arrange the pickup at our hotel? Also, do they make many stops at hotels along the way?
Thank you.

If you have more than one person riding, it is worth it to just take one of the cabs that park out front of SNA. For our family of 5 they call a van for us (no extra cost) and we don't have to pre-arrange anything. It is 45.00 each way. That way you don't have any other stops to deal with, and no waiting.

Have any of you had experience with Karmel Shuttle? They have a Kids Ride Free promotion, which makes for a pretty good price for our family. But, I haven't heard much talk about this company on here... just wondering if that was because of bad experiences??

Super shuttle is a great choice. The last time we went ..my mom plus me and 3 friends.. our driver played finding nemo for us! He was awesome and it turns out that we were the only ones he was scheduled to take!

When I have used Super Shuttle I booked online. I use the code UYR59 and book each person separately so I can get the $3 off/per person each way, and I pay the tip online as well. When you book online, they ask for the address/name of your hotel and your flight info. They give you 3 choices of times for pick-up from your hotel, based on your flight departure time. Each time option is a 15 minute window. For example: 3:55 - 4:10 or 4:10 - 4:25 or 4:25 - 4:40. You choose what works best for you. They call (it's a recording) the day before they pick you up from your hotel to confirm the time, and invite you to call if there is any change in plans. When I used them in January, they actually called (another recording) and told me they were en route and about 5 minutes from my hotel.

In answer to your 2nd question, the vans hold 7 or 8 people. I've always been the 1st or 2nd drop-off.

FWIW, I live in So. Cal. and have never heard of them.

We always use Super Shuttle. Reliable. Dependable. Known.

We used Karmel last July to get a party of four from Long Beach/Queen Mary to DLR after a Catalina Island day trip. They were on time and took us right to the GCH. Highly recommended. The Catalina Island tour people recommended them. That was the first we heard of them.

:thumbsup2

Ok, I need a shuttle from Long beach to BWPPI and then to SNA for our return flight. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a taxi for 6 (2 kids and 4 adults)? At $45 this sounds cheaper than a shuttle which at cheapest is around $55.

I am doubtful, and with four kids I am always told taxis - even mini-vans - can only take five people. I took a taxi from SNA to DLR last September solo and it was $40 plus a tip.

I booked our pick up at SNA for next monday with Karmel, they request that when you have your bags in hand to call the 800 # and they will be right there...We will see how it works next monday...also I booked the shared van for 3 adults 3 kids and it was 45.00 I then found the link to the "kids free" order page and re did it the exact same way and the total was 51.00...So I am not sure the Kids free is such a deal ? Try it yourself and see how it works for you, So ready to get out of this SNOW !!!

Yes, this is exactly what we do. We walk out of SNA, and at the curb are taxi (cars). You walk up to the guy who is directing them tell them you need a van-cab. He radios for one, and in a matter of minutes there will be one there (if there isn't one there already). We do this for our family of 5 all the time, and there is plenty of room for at least 6 in the van.

Sorry, I just read this. HydroGuy is probably right if he asked. We only have 5 in our family, so we have never asked--but there is plenty of room for us, so I assumed it was okay. They must be 6 passenger mini vans?

I fifth (?) the use of Super Shuttle. We used it on the way to the airport after our stay. I had to call to get it booked since my address is a Canadian one and something happened on their site where I couldn't select my province so my credit card wouldn't work.

It was affordable and they arrived right on time and got us to the airport with tons of time before our flight.

Highly recommended.
