How do you remove a small piece of glass embedded in the sole of you foot, in the heel?

Tried tweezers, soaking it in hot water and squeezing on both sides but I can't get hold of it at all.

I might be embarrassed to do that, but maybe that's just me.

Given the choice between having glass stuck in my foot and being embarrassed about going to the clinic... I'd choose to be a little embarrassed. But if you're the kind of person who'd rather have glass stuck in your foot, well, more power to you. :wizard:

Sorry, no idea what these are:

duct tape?

...and what the hell do I do with half a potato?!!! Rub it on, eat it, throw it at someone!!! ;)

prid salve?

I wouldn't be asking for tips if it was really painful and a doctors appointment was neccesary.

It's just a really small shard, like a splinter. I'm sure there is some way to draw it out, so I can get hold of it and yank it out with the tweezers.

meat tenderizer....
I've heard that it will get a bee stinger out so maybe it will work on glass as well.
Good luck:goodvibes

Try the duct tape.

Duct Tape is the shiny silver really strong tape. Tape it over your heal and hope the glass sticks to it and pulls out. Here's a picture.

Do not try a half of a potato. I think that poster was confused and gave you advice on how to remove a broken light bulb from a light fixture:laughing: .

my daughter has gotten this out of my husbands foot by using a sewing needle it is very sharp and you do have to break the skin good luck

If you can reach the spot, I'd keep working with the tweezers if they are the type with a pointy end especially if you can see/or feel the glass with your finger. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll have to dig it out with something sharp like the needle another poster recommended. Poor baby! Hope it comes out!:hippie:

I just want to ask, are you certain it is glass? Plantar warts feel as if there is a piece of glass stuck in your foot, but of course there's no glass, just the core of the wart.

It completely depends upon how the glass is stuck and the shape of the shard, but you could try rolling a pencil toward one end of the shard to force the other end up and out a bit. Then you could grab it with the tweezers. The curved end of a bobby pin could also be used to push one end forcing the other end out. Good luck. I broke a glass door in my bathroom two years ago and every once in a while I still find a tiny piece of glass in the tile grout (or my foot).

Here is what google search came up with...

How to Remove a Splinter Without Tweezers, Squeezing, or Pain
Children (and many adults) often regard the removal of a splinter with terror. Here is an easy, painless way to remove a splinter. This method will even work to remove a deeply embedded glass shard.

[edit] StepsWash your hands.
Irrigate the affected area with a liquid antiseptic such as Betadine, or just wash the affected area.
Make a paste using water and about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
Put this paste on a bandage and apply the bandage to the affected area.
After 24 hours, remove the bandage and rinse the area. The splinter will be sticking out of the skin and you or the child will be able to remove it easily.

[edit] TipsIf you are removing a splinter from a child, reduce their fear of further injury by letting them wash the area and remove the splinter by themselves (if they are old enough to do so).
For more deeply embedded splinters, you might need to repeat the above steps more than once.

OK i done this thousands of times to both me and my friends

step 1. put hydrogen peroxide in a pepsi bottle cap ( clean ) hold it tightly on the area.

step 2. get a sewing needle and dig only the 1st, dead layer of skin off ( the dead skin wont hurt to get off )

step 3. use the tweesers it is alot easier after step 1 and 2

the hydrogen peroxide bubbles it loose :)

But what about rum?

WHere's the rum gone?:hippie:

Is the shard of glass in your foot with no access to the outside? Does it hurt? What happened to me several years back is that I got a shard of glass in my finger-bent over to swipe what I thought was a speck of dust that turned out to be a shard of glass. It really hurt a lot at first so I went to a medical clinic. On X-ray, they saw it had slipped all the way in to near the bone. Since the pain had stopped, they just left it there saying that it would be more trouble for me to attempt to remove it. As they explained to me, there's a reason why doctors worry about rejection in transplant patients-the body rejects foreign objects and sure enough, many months later, the shard of glass found its way out.
