Hey Folks,

We are DVCer's and are looking at visiting the Space Center on our next trip down to see the Mickster :earseek: .

Can you give us any tips or advice about what we should do when we visit the Space Center???

Thanks in advance for your help.

KSC is about 1hr east of Orlando, a very easy drive, but remember quarters for the toll booths. When you get to KSC, spend the money and go on the tours. There are 2 tours; a tour that does the present day stuff, international space station building, launch pads 39A & 39B and the Saturn/Apollo 5 center. The other tour does the 'past day' stuff. The old Apollo lauch sites etc. The Imax movies at the visitors center are very cool. I you can I would suggest making a 2 day trip to KSC. It is very fun and a very good learning experience. Remember to bring your camera!

I strongly suggest the "Lunch with an Astronaut" admission which provides you with tours, a very nice lunch buffet, and an astronaut to give you info and provide answers to your questions. Especially if you have children, it's very nice for them. We really enjoyed our day there.
Have fun!

TIPS
1 visit their website. While on the site I realized that we could see a rocket launch(it was sending up communication equiptment). :cool1:

2 Plan to spend a full day there. This was a mistake that we made as we didn't arrive until after lunch.

I second the Lunch with an Astronaut. It's an incredible experience and they do pick the astronauts who are most personable. We were astonished at 'our' astronauts patience in answering our questions and his incredible insights not only about space but also about human nature and his love of this beautiful Earth. It was a real highlight of our last trip.

Also, take the bus tour early. It gets very crowded later in the day and it can be quite hot standing in line.

I am also thinking of doing this beacuse we have a day to spend while waiting for our flight after our Disney cruise. What age do you think would be interested? My girls will be 4 and 6. Thanks

Here's another vote for Lunch with an Astronaut. My husband complained about the price before we went, then raved for weeks about it. It was definitely the highlight of our KSC trip. Our astronaut had flown the shuttle four times and had many great stories. My son, who was 15 at the time, was spellbound. He let the kids ask questions for as long as they wanted then we had our pictures taken with him. He was so nice. Even the food was good. But if you don't want to spring for the lunch, they also have "Astronaut Encounters" where the astronaut talks and you can ask questions. These are free.

We also loved the Saturn V center. They have a restored firing room from the Apollo days. It looked just like out of the movie for Apollo 13. We spent two days and could have done more. It's not Disney. But if you are at all interested in the space program and it's history, it's great! Also the astronaut Hall of Fame was more fun than we thought it would be. It's not right at KSC but it was worth the stop.

I second the vote for BUG SPRAY! We visit KSC every WDW trip {DH says it's in the prenup! ha ha} Every single time - I have gotten bit by something, of course he has not.

I am not sure if very young kids would enjoy it.

Have a Good Time!

Thanks to everyone for your tips and advice!!
