I just booked for the week after Thanksgiving, and we will be driving from eastern Pa. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on camgrounds on the way down that are not too far off of I95? We are so excited, now I can start a countdown.

Thanks,
Nikki

We stop at the Point South KOA in Yemassee, South Carolina. It is around 30 miles or so from the Georgia line. We like it there. :thumbsup2 We have stayed there on our past two trips and plan to do so on our next.

We stay at the KOA in Fayetteville. Right off I-95. We've tried a couple other places, but like this one the best!:thumbsup2

Pick any KOA along I-95 that fit's your schedule, we've stayed at Enfield, Smithfield, Points South, Jax, St. Augustine, Florence, Savannah ... not FW quality, but fine for the night. Savannah is really nice since you can grab some KFC on the way to the campground to save cooking that night and there are large and long parking places in the rear. Turning left to get back on the road to the KOA can be a little challenging if it's busy. I'm not sure if they still do, but at the Savannah KOA there used to be a pizza joint that would deliver to the office, but you had to be there to get it. The St. Augustine KOA back in 2005 had a sub/pizza joint that would actually deliver to your site.

The Point South KOA has a little area where they make pizza. Quite tasty and it is nice not having to cook after a long day of travel. Plus the cold pizza makes a great lunch the next day on the way to the Fort. :thumbsup2

have to agree with AlyLynn that the KOA Fayetteville is a great place to stop at. We have made this one of our favorite campgrounds due to the closeness off of 1-95 and the atmosphere.

On the way down, I do a marathon on day one and stay at the Savannah South KOA - nice for overnight and it makes for a pretty short trip the next morning to the Fort. On the way home, we pull into the Florence KOA - clean enough and good enough for overnight.

I also live in eastern pa but never had went straight down I95 and made a midway stop on the way to the fort. we always go to Ocean Lakes at myrtle beach as a starter before we head to the fort!

How many hours away is Ocean lakes from the Fort? We are going down there for Memorial Day weekend because we are thinking of storing the camper there next winter so we can use it more!:goodvibes

We also do a marathon first day we leave Nj by 3 am then go to savanha Ga but my wife doesn't drive and with the 2 dogs we make several stops on the way so we usually get to Ga around 8-9 pm but then Fla is only a short trip the next day good luck and have fun
