We joined DVC last Jan and have our 1st trip home this Jan 08 (and our first visit to WDW). But, I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with 2 bulging disks in my back. The pain started 2 mo ago and has gotten progressively worse, to the point where I can barely function even with strong pain meds. I've tried PT, Chiro traction, epidural injection, nothing has helped, but I'm still trying. I've pretty much resigned myself that I won't be able to go on any 'fun' rides in Jan (I love the scary, fast coasters), now I'm just hoping I'll be pain free enough to even walk around and go on some easy kiddie rides with my DH, DD (will be her 5th bday) and DS (2).

Please pray for healing and send me pixie dust!

Sorry for your situation. You definitely can't go on the rides even if you feel better at the time. Bulging discs come from compression (I'm sure you know) and you can really make it much worse. Keep hope though, I've been through your situation with a bulging and eventually ruptured disc and I have worked through it (over years) and now can do pretty much what I want and I haven't had surgery even though it was recommended a couple of times.

I am a little surprised to not see in your list of treatments (Prednisone) a steroid that I have been treated with during the severe times and it is like a miracle.

Also, arch your back a lot to decompress the front of the disc and pull the bulge back in. I found swimming the best excercise for non medical relief.

Good luck and be careful. :goodvibes

I've been there too, and besides the P&PD, I'm going to reccomend you find a good medical registered acupuncturist and have weekly treatments for about a month before you go. It was the only thing that finally got my pain under contro enough for me to heal. You might also try renting an ECV while you are there so you don't have to be on your feet so much. That helped me as well.

Do yourself a favor and rent a electric cart, guess they do not call them wheel chairs any longer. Not that this applies to you as you obviously have a medical issue but we were in Epcot two weeks ago and watched a some women was looking up at the Eiffel Tower and talking to someone behind her and ran a guy over who was standing on the bridge on the side looking into the water. :sad2:

I was also amazed at how many people use the electric carts. They do not allow segways at the parks (outside of the tours) but allow anyone with fifty bucks to rent these carts. We counted one day over a hundred carts with people in them that looks like they were 100+ pounds over weight. Neither of us are skinny but after a week at the world you see why America is considered an obese society and the carts are adding to the issue, not helping it. :scared:

Sorry. Will get off my soap box now. I hope your back holds out and you should take advantage of whatever resources you can to make it through.

This is great advise. You may want to include acupuncture with your rehab, not only does it help with pain control by blocking the nerve signals but
they now know that the procedure also stimulates the body to secrete healing
hormones. Don't get discourage this will only drain your immune system.

Sending Prayers and Pixie Dust your way.
