We have Amer Family and they keep raising our rates. I'm going to start getting quotes tomorrow. I have AAA and am a member of Costco - do either of those offer discounts?
Do you have any other reliable, but great price recommendations?
If you live in either California or Washington try Wawanesa insurance. I've had them for years and very reasonable priced insurance. You do have to be a good driver though for them to accept you.
Ameriprise through Costco is awesome (I'm in CA) -- under $600 per year for full coverage on 2 cars. Price goes down every 6 months. They often have Costco gift card offers for sign up as well.
With insurance good and cheap don't always go together. You can get one, but not always both. You get what you pay for sometimes. Don't get lured in just by a low rate. Make sure the coverage is good, too.
I DH loves Progressive, he pays $34 a month for a 8 year old truck, state minimum coverage (IL). The few times he's made a claim with them it's been no hassle. You can get an instant quote on their website, I believe.
We just switched to Progressive. I did everything online and it was super quick and painless. I ended up saving about $500/yr off my prior policy. I believe the policy defaulted to the state minimum when I started the quote then I could increase/add coverages as I saw fit. So far we are happy but we have yet to make a claim. We went 6 years with our old company and never made a claim yet our rates doubled, so it was time to take a chance!
I agree that cheap and good don't always go hand-in-hand with insurance. I find it's better to bundle different policies such as auto and home together.
When I worked for an attorney one of the worst companies to deal with was Progressive. Allstate was usually the best. You are paying for the insurance you want to be able to use it when the time comes without a lot of angst.
