Need some makeup help

Today I took DD13 to the dermatologist. She has some pretty bad acne going on. The derm has prescribed some new meds, but also wants us to change DD's makeup. Currently she only uses a concealer by NYX. The derm is recommending we use an oil-free, non-comedogenic makeup, preferably mineral based.

I went to Target after dropping DD back off at school & didn't find anything that fit the outline. I haven't been to Ulta yet & don't have a Sephora close by. But, I'm wondering if I need to just go with Bare Minerals? DD does not like a powder foundation at all, and isn't keen on an all-over foundation really. She just wants a bit of coverage to hide some of the blemishes.

Any suggestions in a reasonable price range? The derm suggested checking Neutrogena & Physician's Formula, but specifically said not the skin clearing formulas...which is all I saw in Target.

Almay is hypoallergenic. Not sure if that is helpful. I use it because I have sensitive skin, but I do not have acne. I would probably recommend Bare Minerals, which does have non-powder items. For instance, they have a liquid concealer and pressed foundations she might like.

I liked Bare Minerals but needed something with more moisture so I switched to Urban Decay. I will say Ulta is great because if you don't like it or it doesn't work they will exchange it. Which I don't think Target would do... So for me paying a bit more but knowing I can exchange it is worth it in the long run. Good luck I have sensitive skin and it is so hard to find things that work for me.

I'm not a fan of bare minerals but I recommend going to Ulta. They and Sephora have the best return policies when it comes to allergic reactions. One thing that might be possible to look into is a BB cream. I can't use certain products without them clogging my pores and breaking me out. It's a bit pricer but Makeup Forever is my go to product.

It's so difficult to tell. A foundation that works well for one teen may cause breakouts in another. My approach (I have eczema, not acne) is to purchase a mid-range product and go higher if it doesn't work. I am currently using MakeUp Forever, but I have used Urban Decay and MAC without problems. It will be trial and error!

I use Everyday Minerals as well (buy them online). They seem to be pretty pure and less expensive than Bare Minerals.

We'll be heading to Ulta tomorrow for sure. I have a feeling we'll need their exchange policy a few times.

I like Physicians Formula powder foundation. Whatever you choose though, make sure you buy a good brush to apply with, that makes all the difference. My favorite is Elizabeth Arden, but at $39 a crack its way to much. I just tried IT Cosmetics powder foundation and it has amazing coverage, but I think it's too heavy duty for a young teen. You might want to try IT Cosmetics bye bye redness to spot treat, it's a little spendy at around $35 for a little jar, but it lasts forever, blends super easy and would be a good compliment to the Physicians Formula.

Also if you're going to be using a brush, get some good cleaner and wash it at least once a week if not more. I use baby shampoo to wash my brushes.

I'd gladly pay the $35 if it lasts a long time & fits the bill. I'll check out IT at Ulta. Thanks!!

Bare Minerals has a liquid foundation now. I'm not sure if it qualifies as mineral based but I think it is. Or, if she just wants concealer just buy the BM concealer.

Tarte foundation is very similar to Bare Minerals. I love their tinted bb cream. I get mine at Ulta beauty.

I bought a Neutrogena one (the one without the skin clearing formula) at a Target in the U.S. (the one near Disneyland actually) and it was fantastic for my skin and really cheap (about $7 I think). I'm disappointed I can't get it here. I found it was really trial and error for me - some mineral makeup still caused me to break out, some didn't have a nice finish. I liked the Australis one but not sure if you can get that there, plus it was a powder. I loved the Revlon Colorstay Aqua - it has coconut water in it and feels amazing on the skin. It looks like you can get it at Ulta (it was discontinued here though). Now I use the Revlon Complexion One-Step. It is in a compact, goes on like a liquid (I use a brush or one of those tear drop sponges) and has a nice finish like a powder. It isn't mineral but is oil free and irritant free (with their 'innovative Dermabreathe formula').

I also recommend IT Cosmetics. I've been using their CC powder for about six months, and while I still occasionally try new face makeup I find at Ulta or Sephora, I keep coming back to it. The CC also comes in a cream, and I hear their concealer is amazing.

I've been using Clinique's tinted BB cream with SPF 20 for about six months now, and I love it. It has the most even coverage, it's very light, and is oil-free. It's kinda pricey, but a little goes a long way.

I also do Bare Minerals, I have Rosacea. I get acne like break outs at times, especially if off my med. I find Bare Minerals is easiest on my skin & offers great coverage.

I have very sensitive skin with rosacea. Younique makeup has a new liquid foundation that feels like silk and is super light. Also, I don't know about Target but Walmart does let you take open makeup back as long as you have a receipt.
