Need some BLT wait list & booking advice - I think I messed up!

First of all, I hope someone out there is very happy because I canceled a 1BR LV at BLT today for Dec 13-18!

I'm working on rearranging my fall vacation so that I can travel over my birthday in November. It's me, my DH and my DS7. My sister, her DH and her DS2 would join us. For a lot of reasons we've settled on November 6-11:

1. My sister and I share a birthday on November 9th (though 8 years apart)
2. My son has a half-day of school on the 10th and the day off on the 11th, so he'd only miss 2.5 days.
3. My husband has every other Friday off and this falls over his off Friday.

My husband will only be with us for the weekend (Fri-Sun, 6-8). I toyed around with getting a 2br lockoff and then moving to just the 1br once he's gone, but decided it isn't worth the hassle.

I was able to book our entire stay in a 2br dedicated at SSR (OKW was also available). And I waitlisted for BLT for a SV dedicated 2br and a LV dedicated 2br.

HOWEVER, when I called, they did have a 2br SV at BLT for the 6th only and a 2br LV dedicated for the 7-8-9th. If I do have to move, I'd rather do it the first night. (that way I'd just put off getting groceries until the 2nd day so we wouldn't have to move all our food, too) The kicker here was that there was only a 2br LV lockoff for the 10th, so we'd have to move again. 2 moves in one trip that isn't even a week long is a deal breaker for me!

The sad thing is that I want to stay at BLT! There's a very good chance we won't take a trip next year at all and will bank our points to 2011, so now is my chance to experience BLT when it's new. Of course, I'm second-guessing myself over grabbing SSR now!

So with that LONG warm-up, my question is...

Did I mess up here? I'm wondering if I should call back tomorrow morning and see if they still have that and grab the 7-8-9 dates for the LV and the SV for the 6th. Then I assume I would WL the 6th for the LV as well. The real kicker is what to do about the 10th - should I WL for the LV for that night only or WL for the whole trip for SV?

Most Cast Members will tell you that staying at a new resort is not the best time to stay. Wait until the bugs get worked out and the Cast Members get trained and have experience with the resort.

Some folks also don't like the construction smells from the paint and glue and want to see the grounds after the landscaping has a chance to grow a little.

None of that concerns me. I don't think there will be so many kinks that they won't be sorted out after 3 months of operation. I'm just looking for other perspectives for booking/wait listing for BLT.

I gotta tell you, I would nab what's available for BLT, even if you have to move twice during your trip. From reading your post, you want to stay at BLT, especially given that you likely won't be traveling in 2010. That said, given that DVC just released inventory in June, I have to believe that BLT is going to continue to sell like crazy, and that DVC will release more inventory before November. I'd use your two waitlists for the 6th and the 10th, and hope for the best!! Good luck!!

I would put in your WL for the 6th and the 10th as well and then call periodically to see if something else opens up for SV that would allow you to not have to move as much.

And, if one of those WL comes through, you can then go back and put in the WL for the entire stay SV.

Oh that is a tough one. Just remember your room may not be available until 4PM. Now when it's just adults no biggie, but with a 2 year old who will probably need a nap it can be tricky. Now my daughter was one of those babies who would nap in her stroller, but if your nephew isn't you may want to take that into consideration.

We ended up doing what you're thinking of doing. We booked BLT for Dec. 30th 1BR LV, waitlisted the 31st 1br LV, we have a 1BR SV for the 1st (also waitlisted for LV) & then 1BR LV for the 2nd & 3rd.

I really don't want to have to move twice in 5 nights, but it's still almost 6 months away & I have hope. I also call everyone once in a while & I did manange to get a couple of days added by calling. We were originally waitlisted for the 30th & 1st as well, but those days opened up. So I say go for the waitlist, call on your own too and have a back up plan.

getting a sv is going to be hard - only 11% of the villa are SV.

and not sure if any dedicated are sv?

now lv are 69% of the rooms - so if you can they would be the request.


would have gone with oKW for the 2-bedroom - it is that much bigger than SSR.

you will be able to get SSR again - it is the biggest of the DVC resorts,

besides OKW has cheaper points
