Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could give me any advice regarding road trip across the U.S. next September?

At the moment, I am just trying to gather as much information as possible (regardless of how small), to work out the best intinerary.

What we plan to do is:

Day 1:Fly into San Francisco (SFO), Pick up 4x4 (Grand cherokee or similiar). Stay one night somewhere in San Francisco
Day 2:Drive to Yosemite National park. (4 hours 47 mins) Stay one night in Yosemite.
Day 3:Drive to Death Valley (7 hours 56 mins). Stay one night in Death Valley.
Day 4:Drive to Vegas(4 hours 17 mins)
Day 5 Stay in Vegas.
Day 6. Drive to the Grand Canyon. (5 hours 30 mins)
Day 7. Helicopter?? trip over Grand Canyon.
Day 8. Drive to Albuquerque NM. (6 hours 10 mins) Stay one night in Albequerque.
Day 9 Drive to Witchita Falls (7 hours 49 mins) Stay in Witchita Falls one night.
Day 10: Drive to Gulfport (10 hours 56 mins) Stay in Gulfport.
Day 11: Drive to Orlando (8 hours 44 mins)
Day 12: Orlando
Day 13: Orlando
Day 14: Orlando
Day 15: Fly home (MCO-LGW)

Apart from Orlando, we have been to none of the above places and would obviously want to see as much of the touristy stuff in Vegas etc as we could possibly fit in considering we would only have a short amount of time at each place.

I may add a day to the trip, try and cut down the driving time between the above places (particulary, the last leg-Grand Canyon-Orlando). I was even toying with the idea of hiring an RV for a part of the journey.

Any reccomendations on hotels, what not to miss and anything else on the trip will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Paul is there anyway you can extend by a couple of days as that looks like a very long trip? As for hotels you must stay in the GC at eitehr the hotel or lodges as it is such a wonderful place to stay. I have booked us into El Tovar for next June and did that in August as they get booked up really quickly. In SF I would recommend the Fisherman's Wharf area the Sheraton is ideally located.
Claire ;)
