I just got reservations for 16 at the Coral Reef for a great time (early, but not to early) on New Years Eve!!!! :cool1::banana:

Its going to be at 2-3 tables, but they said that they will try to keep them together. I had two other places in mind, and they were both booked - I can't believe I was able to get this. If we hadn't been able to get anything, it wouldn't have been the end of the world by any means, but this is great!

We also got:

Tonys in MK for 16 (reviews?)
Whispering Canyon Cafe for 16 (reviews?)
Chef Mickey's for 16

I'm so excited!!!

Anyway, can you guys tell me your opinions on Tonys and Whispering Canyon Cafe?

TIA

Honest opinion?

Tony's was fair at best. Not too expensive by Disney standards, so that is a good mark.

This is from my experience in August for lunch.

DS is 11 and had been eating just fine off the kids menu for two week. When we were seated, we asked for a kids menu. We were refused (not a suggestion --out and out refusal) and told it wouldn't be enough food for him. I'm sure we could have demanded, but thought OK maybe the portions are very small. DS ordered an adult meal and ate only a small amount. We should have firmly asked for the kids menu.

Bread was hard as a rock and not worth the risk of a chipped tooth (seriously)

Entree was a good portion and taste was fine.

Glasses not refilled.

We felt very rushed. Lots of people waiting. The only TS we felt pressured to finish and get out.

Not someplace we will likely return. Although, I admit we may have had an "off" day with the host.

Hope you get better reviews and you have a wonderful experience as I know many do.

WCC can definately accommodate a group of that size - if you are all adventurous and have a good sense of humor, go there.

They do some fantastic stuff; the year I went, they had the kids do hobby horse races around the lobby and they made all the fathers and grandfathers get up and sing two choruses of "I'm a little teapot." They also made a teenage girl sit in the lobby and tell everyone who came by, "next time I will eat all my green beans."

And the servers are fabulous - with a group that large I have seen them do some really funny things.

Oh, and don't forget to ask for the ketchup! And see what happens.

We have eaten at both and really like them a lot, and we are going back to Tony's in December. At WCC, the antics alone is what makes us return....of course the food is very good too and those bottomless milkshakes :cloud9:. We like Tony's because the food is good and the atmosphere is wonderful...especially if you eat outside as the 3pm parade is going (we did that in March when we ate there for the first time, and have ADRs in December to do that again, hopefully). Tony's has become my DH's favorite MK restaurant to eat at.

We have also eaten at Coral Reef and enjoy that place too (not too many Disney restaurants that we don't like)....the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is outstanding. Definately get the Chocolate Wave for dessert....you won't regret it :goodvibes

I just ate at Tony's a couple of weeks ago. The food was very good. It was not on the same level as Tutto Italia, but it was good, standard Italian food. I had the chicken parmesan and it was very good. The chicken was cooked well and the pasta was perfectly al dente. The portion was huge, however, so in the future I would get the same thing, but I would share it with someone and share a salad as well. They also serve yummy rolls with dipping oil.

Whispering Canyons should be a blast with your large group. We've always had a great time there and found the food to be very, very good. It's a "don't miss" for us on every trip.

Enjoy! We were at WDW for NYE last year (also at EPCOT) and it was a blast!

We also got:

Tonys in MK for 16 (reviews?) We have never had a bad meal here; we do prefer lunch over dinner as the service is better, it's not as crowded and rushed feeling
Whispering Canyon Cafe for 16 (reviews?) Never agian--second worse meal we have ever had in Disney--hubby got sick and we won't be back
Chef Mickey's for 16We've done numerous times, both breakfast and dinner. Definitely prefer breakfast over dinner. However, it's mroe about the characters than the food in a lot of people's minds.

Our comments in red. Have fun!

I can only comment on WCC, we haven't been to the others.

WCC has very good food. It is DH's favorite restaurant so far (we haven't been to them all) But I would suspect that won't change no matter where we go, he loves that place.

They do antics very well. I have heard others say that it depends on the server but ours did very well. (I hate antics but DH loves it) :rotfl2: So she wasn't over the top but good enough to interact with DH well.

We are making a return trip to WCC for the antics and the food. FYI DH gets the skillet and I get the ribeye, so far we have loved both.

I can say I wouldn't get rid of the Coral Reef on NYE though, what an awesome time that will be. Haven't been there but from the pictures that looks like a good atmosphere to celebrate in.

Thanks for the posts guys!!! I'm really excited about coral reef, especially since somehow I've never been.

The Tonys reservation is for the night we arive in Disney. Our plane lands around 12.30, so with getting the luggage, getting the car, and getting to the rental house, I'm not sure what time we will get to MK. I'm sure we will be hungry, but truthfully, my family may not go to that one. The rest of the party may still go however.
Whispering Canyon does sound like a lot of fun, but we will have to see how the day goes. I'm not 100% happy about having to leave the park to eat, KWIM? But everyone WILL need a break, and thats a good way to get it I guess.

We also love WCC. Our first time there, we just wanted a quiet dining experience and they put us in the back by the fireplace. It was really nice and peaceful. The other time we had full antics. At the end of your meal make sure to ask if they have toothpicks.

As far as leaving the park, it is such a nice boat ride over to the WL. You can look back and see Magic Kingdom and the castle. Especially at night..Beautiful!!!
