Need reputable but reasonably priced national moving company

Anyone use a moving company to move cross-country recently? Looking for a moving company for a Florida to Texas move. Thanks!

When was a move from Florida to Texas considered to be cross country?

I used "cross-country" to distinguish from a local move--sorry if there is a more technically correct term I should have used. And there are a lot of reviews online, which is why I asked here, to help narrow down the options.

There are several ways to accomplish this move. If a company is paying for this because it is a relocation, you may want to look into Mayflower or Allied or a national moving company. When we were given a moving allowance to move from Michigan to Georgia, we hired help at each end to help us pack and unpack, but my husband drove the truck as that is the most expensive part of the move. Perhaps people could offer different suggestions if they understood the type of service you were looking for?

We will be moving from California to Georgia in the Spring. We've had several realtors at the house and I asked which moving company they would recommend. For us, it was Cardinale. Now I don't know if there would be one in your area, but I know they do cross country moves.

Don't worry..IMO you used the term correctly. I would consider FL to TX across the country.

I'm not sure there are any national moving companies anymore. They are national moving companies with local franchisees, so your items get passed from one independent contractor to another as your moves from region to region. That seems to be one area where there are disputes.......the mover at the end wants more money and holds your items hostage even though you though you had a contract with a final price.
Ask around your area for sure.
I don't envy you.

I've moved from FL to CO and back. For the move out, I drove a 17' Penske truck. And only hit one thing It's not so bad.

For the trip back, I rented space in an Old Dominion trailer and hired help to load/unload (from u-haul's website). It ended up cheaper than even driving a truck myself. It was pretty flawless. Pack REALLY well though - the boxes tend to get crushed from sheer weight - your stuff is packed from floor to ceiling. Some of the boxes looked like accordions, but I had packed well and didn't have any casualties. There are also small pod/cube things too - ABF Relo-Cubes, U-Haul has some cube-y things too, and PODS. ABF also does the rent-space-in-a-trailer thing I think.

Seems like the OP and I live in the same neighborhood. Small world... that is what I was saying was funny. But as you can see I was speaking to the OP, so maybe she got what I was saying... maybe not... who knows. If it is the same person she would know what "WC FB" was.

Nope, I'm not the OP. Just was wondering what would be funny about someone asking for help with something on a FB group and asking again here; that's all.

Nothing wrong with posting the question in two different places to get advice. Its no different then getting a second opinion or shopping around for a better price. OP check with local moving companies to. They offer long haul moves. The one we used for our in town move told us they also do long haul moves. I would also check out PODS option. There is also uship.com http://www.uship.com/commodity_selection.aspx Where you list your request and truckers bid on the job.

When I moved from Missouri to Colorado, I used Graebel and had an excellent experience. They packed my house one day and loaded the next. They used local crews on each end. They made the last minute move a lot easier!

We did it ourselves and I will never do it again. We rented a huge U-Haul and hired a company to load/unload the truck for us when we moved from MA to FL. So much of our furniture was damaged because it wasn't packed onto the truck properly. There are companies that charge by the mileage and some that charge by weight. They should come to your house and give you an estimate.

That's exactly what we did when we moved from Seattle to Savannah back in 2010. Every single large piece of our furniture was ruined because the company who packed the truck lined the outside with all of the wood furniture so it bumped and rubbed up against the sides all the way across the country. They put our washer and dryer on top of our leather chairs and couches so all of the arms were broken. Then they packed tons of stuff on top of the washer and dryer so the tops on both of them were crushed. It was the most horrible moving experience ever!
