Ok so I have never stayed at any of the DLR hotels before. In fact I have only once done a two day trip to DLR and that was the ladies trip (two bad I won't get two days this trip but who cares).

We decided to get a hotel to add to a special treat that is happening for us on the 1st and because I want to go to Olvera Street on the 2nd for Dia de los Muetros. So it seemed easier to stay down in Anaheim instead of heading home that night, even though we are fairly local.

So I got the AP discount (though they made me reserve two nights instead of one, which I still need to adjust), I mentioned this is for my Birthday (which is Oct. 22 but whose counting at DL :) ) but now seeing posts I am wondering if I should have made a room request?

Any suggestions for a first timmer (haha that seems so funny since I started going to DL in 1975!)? Hints or helps? Thanks!

Which resort will you be staying at?

I don't think a room request is necessary for just a night or two, unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the room.

We are staying at the Disneyland hotel. I am not sure how much time we will spend in the rooms but since this is something I have wanted to do since I was a little kid I kind of want to make sure it is the best!

Do you have a standard room? I personally prefer either the Dream Tower or the...whatever the one is where the lobby is located. Some of the standard rooms have pretty good views of the pool, but are low enough to be blocked a bit. I would request one of those or a lower DTD side room. The advantage to the Dreams Tower is proximity to DTD/monorail/DL. The advantage to the lobby Tower is you just go upstairs after checking in, all of the shops and restaurants are right there and you're still pretty close to DTD.

You might want to be careful about your room rate, though. They have warnings now that you may get different rates if you change the dates/number of days on your reservation.
