My mother has been battling a nasty staph infection in her leg for months now. This is the same leg that needed a knee replacement several years ago. She has been on several rounds of oral and IV antibiotics throughout the summer. This most recent bout came on VERY quickly this week. She went from walking to completely bedridden in 3 days.
She was admitted to the hospital today and is currently in isolation. As she takes numerous medications for diabetes and hypertension, they don't want to operate until they can wean her off some and bring down the infection just a bit. She is on morphine for the pain and oral and IV antibiotics for the infection. On 9/21 they will be operating to remove the artificial knee and fill the cavity with a stabilizing device and solid block antibiotics. She will be completely immobilized for about a month. Then, if the infection is gone they will replace the knee for the second time.
We are facing at least 6-8 months of hospital, nursing home, rehab hospital and in home rehab......and that is if all goes well with this first round.
I have never asked before, but I am asking now for any and all prayers that you can give. I ( and my family) do appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Linda
