Hi,

After watching Samatha Brown's Christmas @ WDW I started thinking. Should I keep my reservation for May or change to December. Don't have enough points to do both!!! Help! Thanks!!

December , hands down !! Nothing like WDW at Christmas time. The only downside is that it may be too cold for the water parks... but sometimes it is warm enough for them too !!
Very Merry Christmas Party , Candlelight Processional, Osborne Lights (not this year .. , maybe next year), snow on Main Street ......

We always go in both May and December. If I had to pick one, it would be December. If you've never been there in December, it's a real treat! We did it in 1998 "just once" and loved it so much we have done it every year since (buying into DVC in 1999)!

I am going to say May. That being said, I am going to be at OKW next December, but while I love to do December once in awhile, there are things I don't like about that time of year. It can be quite cold like it has been the past week. The parks have very short hours. Besides that, I don't like the low angle of the sun. I usually spend the whole trip unable to see because of that! May has the flower and garden festival, and it will definately be warm then! I guess coming from the frozen north, warm is better.

Daine & Everyone,

Thanks for the replys. Please keep them coming. :) Daine I live in NC and things are very cold right now. If I were to go in December it would be during the 2nd week sometime!!!

Your BCV vacation seems to be tied to a HH vacation, would you have to "give up" both to get to WDW at Christmastime? If not, then I'd definitely "vote" for seeing WDW at Christmastime sooner. Last year we saw our first Candlelight Processional, and we went back the next night, we've bought the CD and listened to it many times, and all of that didn't deminish our thrill of seeing it again this past Saturday. It's just that good of a show.

If you chose to wait, I suggest getting the CD!

I did a WDW trip this May and this December (just returned!).

I would choose May. The decorations were great, but the weather was too cold for a lot of normal Disney activities (which I knew was a possibility but there were almost record lows last week). Lots of rain ruined the MVMCP last week also. Many shows were canceled or postponed until very late. :( I feel like I missed out on a lot of normal December activities (Osborne lights for example).

I'm glad I saw the decorations, but I doubt I will travel to WDW in December again.

Bobbi,

I didn't even think of that!! Thanks for bringing it up. I am renting my HH vaction points from someone. The BCV are our points. I just worked it out it would only cost us 90 points instead of 112 for a one bedroom. :) It might be a mickey christmas after all. Thanks!! We'd still get to go to HH in May of course. Thanks!!

Well, my DW and I will be there in both next May AND next December, so you win out either way! ;) ;)

Seriously, we love May, but have never been in December, so we really want to see WDW all dressed up for the Holidays at least once. We figure we'll have enough years to hit the warm-weather attractions....

Another consideration - May 2004 is when the Member Homecoming will be held; not sure if that is an issue either way for you.

Best of luck choosing - and oh what a choice to have!

If you decide on December, be sure to check into the "whose going" thread so you can be included in DVC/DIS meet plans!

Hi,

I like MH is too expensive for what you get!! And I'd be on my way to HH by the 25th.

We have never been in december, but with all the pictures I have seen and how great it looks, I think our next trip may just be a little december dvc getaway! The Christmas spirit seems very much alive at WDW.

Hi,

Allison,

Sorry, I can not help you out. You have picked our absolute favorite times of year. May for the warm, but not overly hot weather, smaller size crowds due to school not being out and the flower and garden festival. December for christmas decorations, candlelight processional, and MVMCP.

I'd vote for May. For some reason, my husband and I have always loved going to Disney in May. The parks have longer hours for one thing. It is usually warm but not too hot yet.

Dec. is nice too. We just came back from our 1st Dec. trip to Disney. I loved the decorations, but the Xmas music drove me batty! It started at the crack of dawn at the VWL and went until well after dark. It woke us up every day. The same loop of "musak" played over and over, too. I'm not a huge fan of holiday music in the first place, so this was a little torturous for me, LOL!

We love going during the first couple weeks of May. The weather is usually great, crowds are not too heavy, and the parks hours aren't too bad. But we have been during the first part of December too and had a great time. We lucked out and the weather was sunny and highs were in the low 80's. If it had been cold and rainy like it was one Thanksgiving for us, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. I think that you run the risk of a cold spell during December. I guess you have to decide what is most important to you, warm weather or the Christmas celebrations and decorations that go on during December. Probably if you have never been during the holidays you should try it once.

Hi,

Thanks for your replys! Please look @ new post, I hope it makes sense to people. :) I have never been during December, just May!

December weather is definitely iffy, both in the parks and at the airport. We came down from Chicago some years ago to one of those classic Florida freezes. We saw it coming on the weather reports, so we brought our parkas. While other people were checking out because of the cold (high of 27 F one day), we were basking in the warmth since it was 25 degrees warmer than Chicago. Unfortunately some rides had to close because of frozen water, and a lot of beautiful plantings died. It was fascinating to see CMs covering acres of flowers with plastic tents, and setting up orange "jet engines" to blow heat into them. The Poly looked arctic! It was a funky trip, but the crowds were very small compared to the usual Christmas and we had a wonderful time. If you can handle something like that, then go ahead and take the risk of a December visit; most Decembers the weather is much warmer.

Hi Tinkgrl,

May is also one of my favorite times to go. However, December is on my list of things not to miss!!! Go in December and have a great time.:)
