my dilema is this person is a professional and ethically it would not be right for us to date, however there are things that happen and actions that are taken that make me think that there may be a affection this person holds for me that is not just a friendly, but possibly intimate feeling.
I was thinking of sending flowers or something and inviting him to dinner, and going from there. What do you think? Or should I just leave it alone?

Well, it depends on alot of things.

They are a professional what? Are they your therapist?? If so, it wouldn't be appropriate for them to have any romantic entanglement with you, and if they sense that there are romantic feelings, their code of ethics would dictate that they would have to step away from your case.

However, if it is a co-worker, then it depends on a couple of things. What is your company's rule about dating co-workers? What are your feelings about dating a co-worker if the relationship doesn't work and you then have to see this person every day at work?

You are saying it's not ethical, so I'd probably stay away from it.
