Need New Living Room Furniture

If you think you want leather and have never had it before, make sure you really want it before you buy it. I know plenty of people who love it - especially with kids and dogs - very easy to wipe up spills as they don't absorb. However, I don't care for it - especially in the summer. Probably because leather doesn't absorb, it can be very sticky, and IMHO, uncomfortable. I do like the look of it, but not the comfort level.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I shopped at Costco while they had furniture in the warehouse, but all of the "leather" couches in my local stores were actually polyurethane... pleather. I know they have sets online, but I hesitate to buy anything online without seeing it and sitting in it first. I would love to get 10 - 15 years out of a new couch. It doesn't need to last forever, just don't want it sagged and ruined in a year or 2.

The couch I bought from Costco last month was regular leather on the seating surfaces and pleather on the sides. I was ok with that as it looks fine and is real leather where it counts.

We have a hand-me-down leather sectional from my mom that she bought new from either Sam's or Costco at least fifteen years ago, and it looks almost as good as the day she bought it. I have "working" guys in the house all the time, four dogs, a kid, etc, and it has really taken the abuse. I LOVE the fact that I can just wipe it down with those leather cleaning wipes and it looks good as new.

And all pets are different, but I've found that if I don't leave a blanket, throw, or pillow on it, our dogs aren't too fond of laying on it.

I bought my set right out of the warehouse floor and it is real Italian leather. It is also wearing very well.

How long ago? I shopped the most recent furniture sale in Jan/Feb and all the leather couches were fake. Also 2 of the sets I liked had power recliners, the floor models were broken and wouldn't recline, which scared me off the quality as well.
