Need Lang Arts Help

Need Language Help. My son is working on Lang Arts homework. He needs similes and metaphors to compare life.

We have

Life is like a

A big game.
A big jigsaw puzzle.

Do you know what a similie and metaphor is? How about your student? I would get him to use what he knows to finish this assignment because teachers know when kids get adults to do it for them.

Let him try and do it. I taught 3rd graders similies and metaphors and they got it quickly so they should get it.

Well, don't forget Forest Gump's simile: Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get.

Metaphor is when you say something *is* something else. Simile uses the word "like."

Life is a crap shoot (metaphor)
Life is like a box of chocolates (simile)

Can your son make up his own? Or does he have to use well known ones like the ones I mentioned?

Reminds me of my third graders:

My mom is beautiful like a model. The snow is as shiny as diamonds. My dog barks like a wolf (ok, not quite-- but they were trying!).
