Need info on OKW

Just booked a room at OKW for Noverber..just wondering how the bus service is. How is the food at Olivia's. Is there a place to get snacks and small meals(counter service)?? We have never stayed at the DVC we usually stay at a delux resort but would like more room.

Okay from my experience at OKW the bus service was the only thing that made us mad. I mean if they said the bus would be there every 20 min. We waited 20 min. If it said 30 min. we waited 30 mint. My DH would get so made when he'd see buses come and go form the AS'S and we were still waiting for a bus!

The food at Olivia's was always great. But there is no place to get fast food service. their is the pool food stand but not a big selection and has limited hours. This is one of the reasons we no longer stay there.

Don't get me wrong we love the resort it was beautiful and great but now we have a DD who lets face it doesn't want to eat at Olivia's everynight. The resort is great for a nice romantic getaway or if you have a suite w/ a kitchen it's better for families. That way you can make your own meals.

We love OKW, its a quiet, peaceful retreat -- after a hectic day at the parks. OKW is not for everyone; especially if you want of action.

Olivia's is great, its one of WDW best kept secrets.
The are 2 snack bars, one at main pool and the other at turtle crawl pool. The hours are limited. Most people have full-kitchens at OKW so they have snacks stored in unit. Even the studios have a small refrig and microwave.

As far as the bus service, can't help, we rent a car and take the car to the parks (free parking because your staying at a WDW resort) Bus service may take longer because its spread out.

I highly recommend OKW but if you want more to do when the parks are closed you may want to look at the BWI.

We never had a problem with the bus transportation at OKW. There seemed to always be one waiting for us at the parks and then we'd get off at the first stop once inside OKW. I thought it was much faster than buses to and from the GF.

I love OKW... I really can't say enough great things about it. We stock our kitchen with all kinds of snacks and drinks so we never missed having a food court. It's so nice to just get back to your room and not have to run around the resort garthering up snacks and refilling mugs. It's all right there in your room!

We have 2 small children so the space and convienence is awesome for us. It's just like home!

I don't think OKW is very romantic though... it seems more of a family place to me. I don't mind fixing snacks myself, making beds, or doing my own laundry. I guess that's why they call it a "home away from home".

If you're looking to be pampered and waited on then a deluxe resort is better, I agree.

Tanks for all the great info...I am glad to hear it is more geared to families. We have 3 DD 5, 2, and 9m0. I love the idea of the fridge and microwave for heating and storing bottles. Does the store there carry a large selection of snacks and drinks/??

I just read about people shipping snacks etc. down before they arrive and having them held until arrival. Has anyone done this and if so was it successful or was it a problem. I would love to this if it really works.

All the times that we've stayed at OKW, we've never had a problem with buses or food. The store (General Store?) has a decent selection of food including bagels, orange juice, bacon, eggs, milk, cereal, coffee, sodas, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, snacks, beer, and even hard liquor.

The bus service is typical for Disney; don't head out of your room 15 minutes from the curtain at La Nouba thinking that you've got plenty of time. Always give yourself enough time to get to where you're going.

As for shipping food down yourself; this is an *excellent* idea! We've never done that, but we have used Tiffany Car Service and took them up on the 30-minute stop at Publix on the way from the airport. We're doing that the next trip when we stay at the Boardwalk Villas.

Maybe we've been lucky in all our times at OKW, but we don't have any complaints about the bus either. It's no worse than the transportation anywhere else on site.

We also make use of the kitchen for snacks and fast foods, so we don't miss the lack of food court. The snack bars they have are fine. We have also ordered pizza delivery. You can order from several places - Port Orleans, Pizza Hut or (I think it was Dominos). The store is not very big, but it has a pretty good selection of food items.

One really nice thing to do at OKW is take the boat that goes between the OKW marina and DD. It travels from around noon until just before 10 pm. Takes about 20 minutes and is a really nice little trip.

I can't answer your question about bus service... we'll be staying at OKW for the first time in March. But we have eaten at Olivia's and we all enjoyed our meal. I have lots of pictures of OKW and also a 1-bedroom villa that we toured. You can find them HERE.

My boss is a DVC member and has the grand villa at OKW. He goes w. his childeren; who have children ranging from infants to age 7. They ship diapers, snacks, juice boxes, etc. directly to OKW without a problem. He calls OKW guest relations to let them know a package is arriving. He sends it to OKW guest relations with attn to himself and that he's a DVC member.

He said its cheaper to do this. We haven't done it, because we don' t have such a large group.
