Need info on Lakeland Florida

We are going to move to Lakeland and I want to get as much information as I possible can get. Can anyone give me information on the best places to live, best and worst school and what to do there?

Can't help much because the only people I know that live there are my in-laws for half the year, and my friend's in-laws who also live there half the year. Both couples live in different mobile home communities, and since they are senior citizens they don't know much about the schools.

I'll bump this up for you though.

I live a half hour away. MIL lives in the north end of town (she's 80, no kids of school age), and we almost bought in the south end of town.

Polk County has a website for determining the school qualities. http://www.pcsb.k12.fl.us/ I ended up making a list of all the A rated schools, then started looking for houses after determining how good the schools were. I passed my list off to a friend who also is moving down here, otherwise I'd pm you the info.

Just so you know, Lakeland is BIG-VERY big. It's growing, there's plenty to do and lots of stores and restaurants. Tampa's just over a 1/2 hour away and depending on where you are, WDW is 20-45 minutes away.

Good luck. We thought we'd end up in Clermont, then looked at Lakeland and closer to Tampa (work transfer was for Tampa). I'm glad we moved, and I'm glad I'm in a smaller town!

I live in the next town over from Lakeland, Auburndale. As another poster pointed out, Lakeland is huge! With the size comes a better selection of stores and various other things. They have a website.

This area is really nice. Close enough to everything without being right in the middle of it.

I was online today looking at Auburndale and it looks like a wonderful community!
Some of the schools I looked at had above state average grades for the FCAT.

Herc - Pensacola is a big military town with great beaches! The beaches are the best in the world. Love the sugar sand!!!!
