Need info. on Asheville, NC

If you do go to Slippery Rock be prepared for COLD, I mean COLD, water! It is the coldest water you can get without ice in it. That's how it felt anyway. I would wear an old pair of shorts and an old t-shirt over a bathing suit so the bathing suit doesn't get ruined on the rocks.

Hi ya'll, just wanted to add to this thread....I'm on vacation in NC right now....we're about 30-40 minutes west of Asheville, just outside of Waynesville.

We've had a lot of rain here this year. Almost every day at least a shower or two. And the temps are noticably cooler today. It's still beautiful though, in spite of the rain!

Patti, I think you will love Fontana! I have never stayed there, but I recommended it to friends who vacationed there a few years ago and they loved it!

Here's some suggestions for things to do, in the area:

Whitewater Rafting at Natahala
Tubing at Deep Creek near Bryson City
Great Smokey Mountain Railroad from Dillsboro
The Jarrett House in Dillsboro has great country cooking, served family style
Gem Mining (our favorite is Jackson Hole, on Route 64 heading towards Highlands)
Granny's Chicken Palace in Maggie Valley

Most of the these places have websites, just try doing a Google search.

If you like shopping, check out the Biltmore Village (across from the entrance to the Biltmore House), especially the New Morning Gallery. They have the most unusual stuff...handcrafted furniture, pottery, jewelry, etc.
