We will probably fly out of Detroit in July. It would save us a total of $250 ($50 each for the 5 of us). We want to get a very early flight so we want to do the hotel/park thing--stay the night before and leave the car at a hotel. Do hotels in Detroit still offer that? We last used it years ago. If not we have to rethink our departure time.

Yes. We park at Qwik Park all the time. There's a hotel right there...I'll need to do a bit of research to get you the name. It's only about 3 or 4 minutes from the terminal.

We are booked at the Westin (not my idea... DH  ) It is a bit pricey, but it is right in (I guess) the NWA terminal. DH is wanting the convienence. It includes 8 days valet parking which I guess is worth something, instead of the $10 a day for parking and then having to hunt for your car when you return.

(I would rather try to find one of the cheaper ones that have the park/fly but DH thinks we'll be able to sleep a little longer... yeah right... We're headed to Disney... No ones sleeping!)

I did a little looking on Expedia and 80% of the rooms that come up say I exceed # of guests (I have a family of 5). This includes the Westin, which does look great! Of the options available, the best one with 24 hour airport transportation is the Hampton Inn. Some of the shuttles don't run until 6AM and our flight leaves at 6:40, so that's too late.
I suppose I could fudge the # of kids, but I'd still have 5 people getting on the shuttle so they'd figure it out...and it would set a rotten example for my kids. I might even try the Westin if I can call direct and get them to let me get only one room.
At least now I know what my options are and if a good fare comes up (right now lowest is $197 each) I can grab it.

I'm not sure about the # in room restriction, but we stayed at Hilton Garden Inn (a fairly new property) just off Merriman (Smith Road, I believe) and it was lovely.

We opted for a park and fly room at a rate of $129. It included 10 days parking (either in the hotel lot or a commercial lot, your option). We added two days parking for $10 since we were going to be gone 12 nights. Initially we were going to park at the commercial lot, but when we saw the facility, we decided it would be more convenient to leave our vehicle at the hotel.

We've also stayed park and fly at Courtyard by Marriott--also a decent property, but it included fewer parking days for the same rate as Hilton. Hilton also has a suites hotel which might be an option for your family of 5.

There used to be a Fairfield Inn, but I believe it's now Ramada that has a park and fly. La Quinta was also reasonable as I recall when I checked. Do NOT, under any circumstances, book a room at Clarion on Merriman--it was an absolute PIT!

We always fly on one of the first flights out of Detroit and all of the hotels we've stayed at begin the shuttle service at 5:00 a.m. or are 24 hour services. Further, you always have the option of waiting to park, at a commercial lot, on your flight day. The shuttles at the commercial lot included with our park and fly package run 24 hours.

Happy hunting!

This seems like a great idea, so I tried to book one of the properties that offered park and fly. Everything is full on Feb 3 due to the Super Bowl, I guess. Maybe next time

Wow T & C, you are in Bellaire? We used to spend a week in Bellaire every summer until I was 8 at Miley's. Then we switched to another place over near Manistee. Sorry your trip is Super Bowl weekend...figures it's the one year since I was in HS that Detroit has the super bowl!

Rock n Robin....yup..I'm in Bellaire, on the opposite side of town from Miley's. I keep checking the park n flys, thinking that some disappointed "non" Super Bowl team fan that has reservations cancels. Otherwise, it'll be a very early morning drive from Bellaire to dtw for a 11am flight. Wish me luck!!
