Hello, there is a good chance that I may be visiting DL solo, and I was
wondering if anyone could recommend a clean yet inexpensive hotel near the
park for the week 5/4-5/11? I am booked at the Candy Cane, but $97 a night for
one person is a bit steep, especially for one on a budget. Any suggestions will
be helpful. My criteria for the hotel (other than what I stated above) free shuttle
to DL and other attractions, breakfast, pool would be nice, and if entirely
possible, interior corridors (I'd feel much safer that way)

Thanks,

Jules

I think Howard Johnson's would suit your needs, except no free breakfast. I'm not sure what the cost is now, but it used to be around $60-$70 per night, and it's the most "hotel-like" (i.e. interior corridors). They have a nice pool area, is walking distance from DL (a little farther than some others, but not by much), and they have a shuttle. Carousel Inn is right across DL, and it was slightly cheaper than HoJo.

If you want to be able to just cross the street and be at the parks, you should be looking at hotels on Harbor Blvd. Howard Johnson's, Fairfield Inn, Park Inn International, Carousel Inn, Tropicana, Best Western Park Place, and Desert Inn and Suites are the ones that get mentioned and recommended the most around here. HJ is the only one of those with interior corridors, I think. Over on Katella, the Annabella gets mentioned quite often. There are several places that are nearby and decent. Also, most hotels in the area have shuttles to Disneyland, so you can be flexible. Plus, some people use Priceline.com to get into more expensive hotels at last minute for under $50, and those tend to have interior corridors.

The Best Western Park Place is directly right across the street to Disneylands entrance, kid you not! Their rooms were just remodeled in November of 2001. This is the closest place to stay off of Disney property.

There is a map here of the closest places to stay off of Disney Property. Most of these are Disney's Good Neighbor hotels, so they are perfect for anyone on a restricted budget!

Good luck!

Another vote for Priceline. Have never paid more than $55 for a hotel in that area and have stayed at some nice hotels.
