I need an 80's theme costume. Not just dressing like we did in the 80's. I need a character, singer, cartoon, etc. Any fairly easy and cheap ideas?

I am stuck!

Thanks

How about Madonna....although she has metamorphised so many times, no one may recognize the original version!!!

Also:

Smurfette
Cyndi Lauper
Cabbage Patch Kid
Ronald Reagan
Atari game console that plays Pong

Let us know what you come up with!!

What about the Madonna look from Desperately Seeking Susan... or maybe an Egyptian from The Bangles 'Walk Like an Egyptian'.

Ooh! I did Walk Like an Egyptian in a dance recital in Middle School! Memories! That is good.

I also like Rubik's cube, but I guess I cannot sit much?

The hostess is going to be Smurfette, so that is out. Sad.

Jennifer Beals in Flashdance--cut off sweatshirt or sweater, tights, leg warmers (can be made from arms of an old sweater-- or the sweatshirt above. Have fun!

Costumes I think you could make fairly easy and that are totally 80's.

Daisy Duke

Hulk Hogan (if you want to go as a man)

Cabbage Patch Kid (you could make some yarn hair)

Care Bear (add a patch to your shirt)

Rainbow Bright (striped socks, and you'd have to look up the rest)

Crocodile Dundee

Breakdancer (complete with boombox on your shoulder)

Michael Jackson (one glove, jeans, white socks, and a zippered jacket if you could find it)

Depending on your hair, you could try to make it do the Flock of Seagulls thing.

Punky Brewster

Still thinking....

We're hitting the thrift stores today to get some older style clothes to make DD13 an 80's costume for Halloween and themed b'day party next week. I'm thinking heavy blue eye shadow, pony tail to the side, teased up high bangs. Probably tights and a neon shirt/sweatshirt - leg warmers. Gummy bracelets all the way up the arm. Still thinking.

:rotfl: Ohh, you've got some good suggestions. Think of 80's teen movies - Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, St Elmo's Fire. If you want to go more obscure, how about TV shows from then like Square Pegs - be the pre-glam Sarah Jessica. :rotfl:

I was going to suggest Punky Brewster! A fellow teacher came as Rainbow Bright last year on Halloween...none of the students knew who she was! We teachers were very impressed, though!

What about Miss America 1980? Find a hideous bridesmaid gown with lots of lace and a butt bow. Tons of blue eye shadow, big hair, the works.

What about a roller derby girl? Is that 80s?
