We are having DS's birthday on Sat. I need new ideas for goodie bags. I personally don't like them because they are usually a bunch of junk. But the kids expect them, so any good ideas? His party is at a mini-golf place.

Cigarettes? kidding...
We usually give stickers, bubbles, lollipops, gel pens..
Target has good stuff in the dollar section.

pencils
superballs
beads (Mardi Gras)
stickers
golf balls

A mini-golf party sounds like fun!

Items to consider... Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars (less than $1 each), fruit snacks, individual packages of chips/crackers/pretzels, punch-balloons...

We usually reserve the candy for the pinata and let the kids fill baggies from the pinata candy.

How about a drinking cup with their names on them filled with round candy such as gumballs. The cup is something they will actually use. Another idea would be to give them a cup with some koolaid mixes inside.
At one birthday party I went to they gave out books along with the bags.

I try to stay away from the "junk". Our Walmart has a pretty good selection. They have the glow up bracelets & sticks for around 88 cents each. The kids love these! Pencils, pads of notepaper, stickers, little cans of playdough, bag of cotton candy, animal crackers, goldfish, little balls, sunglasses, beach toys, etc....

There are some great items at the dollar stores, I know I have done them for my daughter. Go to a couple different dollar stores, some dollar stores have mere junk and some have better junk* for your buck!!LOL!

Kids expect them and they are fun!

2 weeks for 2 weeks to see MICKEY MOUSE!!! YES! :cool1:

Also, sometimes Target End Caps.

I bought one big thing for the "goodie bag" at my daughter party..I got the boys skateboards and the girls these plastic things with a ball on the end you jump over....it was the end of the season and they were 90 percent off..the skateboards cost me about 2.75 and they went over bigger with the kids than a bag of junk....

I am horrible about this. I am always out on constant watch for goodie bag items. I refuse to give the junk and I refuse to spend a fortune. There were these see through wind up cars that sold for about $15-$20. Walmart had their brand for it for $5 on clearance for $1. I bought all they had. My husband thought I was nuts, until I gave them away at DS birthday party 1 1/2 years later. Kids were in love. Parents thought I went overboard. It cost me $1. Even though 2 of my kids have winter birthdays, at the end of summer season I always go looking. I have these beach pails I picked up for $0.20 and the straw mats for beaches that I got for $0.66. I figure sooner or later will have a party at the local indoor pool and use these. But anyhow, you don't have time to look ahead...

At this point, I would check out the cheap things at Target and Walmart and hit the local dollar stores. I just bought some thick, nice coloring/activity books for DS5 birthday party for $1, picked up nice box of crayola crayons for $0.11 when stores were trying to get rid of unsold school supplies, but I think they were only $0.36 now. You could also see what books the dollar store has. Or get some bubble bath from there. I like the koolaid idea too! Dollar stores always have good deals on playdough and bubbles too.

can you buy extra games of mini golf there @ a resaonable price? Our place here has tokens for a free game (you usually win these) but you could maybe buy some extra ones & then throw it in a bag with the usual stuff - candy/gum....

If you have a partycity near you that's the best place to come up with favor ideas - even if you don't buy the stuff there -get the idea & buy it somewhere cheaper.........

My kids love magic towels - $1 at the dollar store. The first one we ever got was from a DIS exchage! :thumbsup2

No specific ideas, but one thought came to mind. My girls (8 and 6) always liked to choose what they would give their friends, rather than have me choose. I never cared for the "junk" either - but if it was what they wanted to give, and we weren't spending too much, it seemed okay. Maybe you could include your 5 year old in the choosing. Good luck & have fun!

I found at the dollar store puzzles with cartoon characters like Spiderman and Strawberry Shortcake, the kids loved them and their parents liked them too.

Just thought I'd add this--my sister said her kids have been coming home with gift certificates. Usually around $5, but up to $20 on occasion. Of course, her kids are older and the parties much smaller.

Wow, I hope I don't get into a party circle like that. I was thinking the free mini golf and train ride was enough, do I really even need to do goody bags, let alone a $20 gift certificate. Yikes!

We had DS's birthday at a mini golf center last year. Instead of regular goody bags I gave the kids bags of quarters ($3 each) so they can use them for anything they wanted in the gameroom. It went over well with the kids and everyone had such a great time. We paid for the mini golf, ice cream for each of the kids and then the quarters, it was one of the best (and by far the easiest) party we ever had.

:earseek: I'm shocked! That is a lot of money for the "treat bag" when the parents have already paid for the party. We usually only give $10 - $15 gift card for the birthday child's gift. I would feel awkward if they gave my DS a $20 gift certificate as a party favor.

My DS is obsessed with football and so we gave out "nerf" type footballs from the dollar tree along with a small bag of candy. Both of my sons' favorite party favors have been cups or water bottles with their names on them. Whenever they use them they remember their friend's party! :goodvibes

ETA - these are cheap cups or water bottles that have their name written in paint pen. Nothing fancy or too expensive!

When my DS turned 5 I gave each kid a mylar balloon with a big pack of gum and a thank you note tied to the bottom. I got the balloons at the Dollar Tree.

Cheap & Easy !
