My local scrapbook store has asked me to teach a Disney scrapbook class. I need ideas! I am thinking I would like to do something around Animal Kingdom, but what to do I don't know. Also, something other than that I don't know. Help!

Are you making a layout or elements? Have you done paper piecing before? I've taught people to paper piece Disney elements before and they loved it.

I can pretty much decided what to do. I have never done paper piecing. For tha matter I don't even really know what it is.

Paper piecing is sort of like fabric applique only with colored cardstock instead of fabric. You cut the pieces of cardstock and piece them together to make a figure to be the focal point of your page.

I start with a simple coloring book picture of a character I like. Pooh would be a good one to start with. Choose something to start with that has a limited number of colors and without a ton of detail. Avoid people until you've practiced. Faces and hands can be difficult, but they're not impossible. Print out your picture. This is your pattern.

Then cut it apart into the different colors. For example, Pooh's red shirt, Pooh's gold face, white eyes, black pupils, etc. Sometimes I use pens to do eyes if they are small. Decide which parts are going to overlap the others. The underneath parts are going to need tabs added to the puzzle pieces to allow for overlap.

Now, trace the puzzle pieces onto colored cardstock. I draw the folds in Pooh's shirt, etc now so if I lose the pattern piece it's no big deal. Overlap and glue into place as you go. Sometimes I use a little yarn or other embellishment to give it more depth.

This sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. These make the cutest Disney pages. And there is a lot of cute Disney clipart and coloring books out there. Some designs can be made really fast!

I can show you a few I've made (I'd have to look for them and I can't guarantee the picture would be that good since they're in albums) or you can do a search on ebay to see them. People are always selling them. Some are much better than others.

If it's just "Disney", an Animal Kingdom class wouldn't work for people who have just gone to Disneyand.......

You might get a better response if you do a project based on the characters rather than a park. I haven't taught a class since we moved, but here are some things you might not have thought about. :)

Lets say you choose Mickey as your theme. Make several different class supply packs using different characters!! Let your students choose which character they would like to use for class. You would not believe how many people would buy one of each pack to take home. I always tried to use and suggest things that would make the project easier ( like glue dots), or something that would enhance the project ( stickers that are not included in the pack ). Try not to suggest things that the lss does not carry. Make sure you ask the LSS what your commission will be on the extra supply packs, as well as for up-sales. You don't have be pushy, but you will have several beginners that just don't know about everything, and will be happy for the advise.

Teaching is SO much fun! Good Luck!

My lss does a disney tag book for autographs, although it really doesn't have enough pages IMHO. ;) They also do a 1 hour princess layout class using the printed princess papers and stickers.

I have to agree about keeping it character related and not park related, at least for the first few classes. I find when I teach, after you have them hooked on your classes, you can ask them and tailor classes to your students. But general interest classes to start always brings people in.

Mickey 2 page LO, then a Minnie 2 page LO, Pooh and friends... they can be used for park albums or general bday pages or anything...like the kids were wearing a Mickey shirt at Grandmom's one day...
