need ideas for 8th grade graduation gift for classmates

DD will be graduating from 8th grade. Almost all the kids have been together since pre-k and will be moving on to a public high school. It's become a tradition that they get gifts for each other. Usually some sort of keepsake thing. Trouble is, the past couple of classes (the ones that started this) have been really small and all girls. There are 16 in DD's class, 8 boys and 8 girls. I'm a scrapbooker and have tons of pics, so I wanted to make a photobook of their years together. DD feels very strongly that she does NOT want to do this. Any ideas? Something meaningful, suitable for a boy or a girl, not just something that will collect dust, and preferably $15 or under. Eek. My head hurts.

We're getting all the 8th graders t-shirts in their school colors and giving them out a their last night pool party. We'll have permanent markers there for them to sign. Last year, a parent gave all the boys bandanas in their school colors. the Boys loved them. We are also K-8 and our son's class is the 2nd 8th grade to graduate.
