In the past I have used the rubbermaid type pencil boxes for the plane ride for 6 and 4 to color. I don't want to use them this year as it seemed really tricky to hold them and hope the kids didn't knock them over. I have used ziploc bags and am considering looking for small art supply books, the kind that hold smaller versions of colored pencils, crayons, etc. Anyone have a more "brillant" way to contain the art supplies on the plane? Also taking the crayola magic marker kits, the magic paper ones.

I have learned that less is more...I was constantly keeping track of this crayon, that pencil, that marker and the lid that disappeared. They were everywhere our whole trip!! I ended up packing everything up in a cleaned WDW popcorn bucket for the return trip. Maybe a few of each in a ziplock and rotate them between kids. I am sure there will be brilliant answers coming!

My kids each take a backpack as carry on for their activities to keep them busy. FOr art supplies I buy those little kits that have the pencils and crayons in specific spots. They kinda click into place and it keeps them from getting free on the plane! You can find them in school supply sections of stores.

You could put crayons/markers in a small makeup bag. A clear one might be best.

Years ago my mom made coloring book holders from fabric that was like a sleeve/carrying case for it. On the inside were slots that held crayons in pairs. You could try looking for a pattern for something like this or making it yourself, it's not too hard.

I found binder style pencil holders in WalMart for $0.99. They are a heavy duty, brightly colored, rip stop nylon fabric with a clear plastic cover. They have a 3-ring holes on the side and a zipper. I put all the art supplies in it. It fit great in the seat pocket of the airplane and also maintained a good upright position next to my son by his leg and resting against the armrest of the seat. Plus you could adjust zipper so that the pouch was less open, less prone to make a mess just incase. I put in a couple pencils, a 4-ink color single pen, washable markers, primary colored crayons, and blunt tipped scissors (which are legal on the plane under 4"). In a pocket folder, I brought activity pages that I had printed, among other things. I packed DS6's school backpack with all his entertainment and he was in charge of it. Worked very well. I wouldn't recommend smaller art supplies, seems like they would be more difficult to keep track of and manage.:confused3

My kids have a pouch that's just big enough to hold a 4x6 pad of paper and on the outside it has slots for 8 crayons or colored pencils. I used it in the car this weekend for a short trip and they worked great -- they took one out at a time so they weren't falling all over the place.

I love it! I'm going to look around at target for one...thanks!!

Sure! Good luck with whatever you try! I know how difficult it can be entertaing the kids in the car so I'm sure it isn't easy on the plane either :) So when are you going?...dh has a convention there for the first week of June and invited us along. Disney here we come!!!!!

H has a business trip in Daytona and we leave for that on June 1, then on June 3 me and the kids are driving down to WDW for June 4, 5, 6, 7, and heading back to Daytona on the 8th. I can't wait!!! So I'm preparing my "green mickey's" to tie to my stroller and I guess that is all I do to let other DISers see me?

We fly out at 6:00 am and land at our first (and only layover) about 9, leave there about an hour and a half later and get to MCO around 2:30, driving for an hour and a half to Daytona, so this stuff will help in the car trips too. I love all these ideas!!

Did you make the pouch? Yes slots to hold things will be good on the plane. Last time we flew to DL, we lost a few crayons and markers on the floor of the plane and didn't want to try to squeeze down in between the seats to find them. They were so good on that flight, hoping the same on this, but this time it's quiet a bit longer in the air.......

I put Crayons In one of those Bar of soap containers from Target... that you get in the travel section. It's the perfect size for crayons, its cheap, it stays flat on the tray in front of her on the plane. Best of all its small and fits perfectly in her little backpack!

Ahhh!!!:yay: That's the exact week we will be there! We'll be staying offsite near the convention center so the kids and I will just drive over there. We'll probably visit the parks 2 or 3 days (depending on how much I can handle by myself). I'll look for your green Mickeys...I'm going to try to find a green scarf or something. If you see a crazy lady  with 2 little boys, one big boy and a stroller w/ a green scarf please come say HI!

I love simple but clever ideas- especially when it comes to kids

We did make ours but we did see them already made in a gift shop at our local farm.

Very cleaver!! Looks like I'll just have to go shopping today!!! Like that is such a disappointment? Anything to make this trip smooth, pleasant, memorable!

We are staying off site in Lake Buena Vista and will try the shuttle the first day and if have to drive the others. We are doing one park a day. I will be the other crazy lady with 4 kids in tow, (20 DD, 12 DD, 6 DD, 4 DS) double rental stroller, tags of all sorts on the stroller, frizzy hair as we are not used to the humidity, live in dry heat! But the crayons will all be contained!!! I will most definitely say hi!
