We are going to DL on Sept. 21-28. We waited a bit too long with hotel ressies becuse I was waiting for a seat sale. Got a great deal on airfare out of Vancouver but now am facing a hotel crunch. Our travel agent says that the only hotels available with a suite (there are 5 of us and we need some space!) is the Staybridge or the Embassy South. This is not what I had envisioned. I wanted the Park Inn which would allow for leisurely coming and going, more dining options etc. The Staybridge is further out with NOTHING around it (friends went last spring and loved the hotel but disliked the location). The Embassy is a mile down Harbour and I don't know if there are any businesses etc around it. Either way, we are relying on a shuttle now, removed from the magic. Sigh. Any thoughts on those hotels? Also, the Castle Inn was avail but I have heard it looks kind of scary. The agent is holding a room at both so I have to decide by Monday am. Thanks for any DIS help!

Wow, that's surprising that there would not be any other suites available at that time. Schools are back in, so I would think it would be less busy. Have your TA try Carousel Inn, Candy Cane Inn, Dessert Inn or Park Inn. These all have suites and are right near BW Park Place.

As for the Embassy, true, its farther, but I've heard great things about it. Many people really like the hot breakfast. Can't comment Staybride. But I have friends who always use Castle when they go. They are a young family with 3 kids all under 8 yrs, so it can't be too bad.

If you are willing to walk slightly further, (Less than half a mile) there are rooms showing available in some of the hotels on (or near) the Katella street crossing.

Desert Palms Hotel and Suites is showing a 2 RM Family Suite available.
This hotel is very close to the Timon parking lot, where you can catch a tram. Expedia shows this hotel as 150 yards from what they call the South Gate. I am not certain if this is the gate to the parking lot or not.

While it is not as close as Park Inn (which is one of my favorite places on Harbor Blvd), it is not as far as the hotels closer to the convention center.

This is one of the hotels, in the area, that I have never stayed in.
It is on my list of hotels to try out (based on location and reviews).

We stayed at the Embassy South in June. It was fine. It's about a 1/2 block from a major intersection that has a Target occupying one corner and an Outback Steak House and Joe's Crab Shack occupying another. There are lots of hotels in that area as well.

Also, we did the shuttle once and ended up walking the rest of the time. It's only a mile, so if you like to walk, or do it for fitness, it is a very easy "commute."

Thanks for the ideas. Our travel agent did not want to book us into the Desert Palms Hotel as she has had some bad experience with it. It is so helpful to know that there are some businesses around the Embassy Suites. I like the idea of being able to get to a Target easily. We won't be booking a car while there so walking distance is a good thing! I am feeling less cranky now! Thanks! :cool1:

Desert Palms is different than that Desert Inn. Palms is behind CA Adventure, and I haven't heard much about it other than it did just get a rehab. Desert Inn is right next to BWPPI. I've stayed there a few times, it's adequate, not too fancy, but not a dive either.

crazymama, I hope you find a place to stay that meets your needs. Have you tried the Best Western Park Place Inn? They have mini-suites, maybe they would work for you.

I am from Victoria and always try to watch the airfare deals. Which airline did you book on? I am planning for Nov or Dec, but there aren't any good deals for those dates yet.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in April and it was wonderful! I highly recommend it. It's right by the Embassy Suites. There's also a fabulous italian restaurant next door. Really yummy food. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Tropicana has suites, even kitchen ones....they also have their own web site, I would research them.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think our agent booked us into the Embassy Suites South today... or at least I think she did. Haven't heard back yet. DLFan, we booked our flight on Westjet which has pretty awesome fares now till the end of September. We are flying and returning on a Wednesday for $105 each way. Keep your eyes peeled cause the late fall seat sales should be kicking in soon! I really like Westjet cause of their great customer service!

Best Western Park Place in is our FIRST CHOICE whenever we go to DL! It is DIRECTLY across the street from DL, right in front of the crosswalk that takes you to DL! Can't get any closer! It's always been very clean and they have a breakfast included (either continental or pancakes-you're choice!). The best part is, they have mini-suites that are perfect for families! You should be able to get ressies for after Labor Day, no problem! :cool1: :cool1:

I could not recomend the Castle Inn and Suites and LESS.

We stayed in a suite last time with a hot tub in the room.

The room smelled like Mold, the carpet was filthy, we refused to walk barefoot... the jets in the hot tub spray out chunks of hair before it got going, and when the tub filled, there was a whitish film on the top. We kept losing power in half the room, and someone had to come and and mess with the breakers... I was afraid to get under the blankets for fear of what I might find.

upon finally making a complaint to the management... the Man (Joseph) behind the counter, told me there was 'nothing he could do' and started making fun of my boyfriend. Horrible place.

We LOVE the Red Roof Inn.. I know you can get a double-room there for a very nice price... however, there are 5 of you... maybe a cot?? We've never really looked into the suites there, but it is a fantastic value... and the ART (anaheim Resort Transit) makes traveling to and from the park awesome ^_^

Good luck, and I hope you have a FANTASTIC TIME in Disneyland :)

Desert Palms and Suites was built in 2004 (essentially right next door to Candy Cane Inn). We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn so many times in 2004 that we got to watch the building process progress. I stayed at the Desert Palms & Suites in Jan. 05 and it is a very nice place with great customer service.

It is VERY different from the Desert Inn, yet still walking distance from DL (it takes about as long to walk there as it did to walk to Fairfield Inn by Marriott which is across the street from the main bus entrance to DL).

Has anyone stayed at the crown point plaza?

If you mean the Crowne Plaza on Harbor we stay there for all our trips to DL which is several time a year. It is a great hotel and across the street from the Embassy Suites refered to by the OP. Now distance is not an issue for us because we drive from San Diego so we have our own car but we have on occassion needed to use the shuttle when some are ready to return to the hotel and not others and the shuttle service works fine.

The best part about being out where these hotels are is the restaurant choices: Red Robin, Joe's Crab Shack, Buca Di Bepo many other choices.
