So, bf and I are socal Ap holders and would like to see WOC for the first time soon. Since it requires a bit of planning, I was looking for advice on what the best strategy for us would be.

So we normally go to the parks either on weekdays after work (getting to DL around 5-5:30) and stay till either close or at least fireworks or we go on Sundays and always get there for rope drop and leave (depending on crowds) either late afternoon or right around dinner time since 8 to close is a long day and it's not like this is our only time to go).

BF is not really crazy about waiting long for WOC or dealing with the FP situation and trying to get the good section, and we could only do that on Sunday, and by night time we are pretty tired. I've looked at the picnic deals, which sound good, but I don't like the idea of a cold dinner (cold fried chicken just sounds wrong, especially since we are crazy about the Plaza Inn fried chicken), and the dinners sound like more than we want to spend.

So what should we do to see the show and not have much of a headache?

If you get there at about 5 there should still be fast passes left for the second showing if there is one. We were just there and DCA was open until 10, so there was a show at 10:15 and there were FPs still available when we walked by at 8.

The picnic meals actually aren't bad - and I think pretty much all the food at DL is bad. ;) It's definitely a good way to make sure you have a FP. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think with the picnics, if you order in advance you'll get an FP for the 9 p.m. show. (I am assuming you are going when there are two shows, if there is only one I acknowledge I have no idea what I'm talking about.)

I know there is a lot of talk on this board about what section to get and where to stand for the very. best. view. But honestly, you can walk up right as the show starts with no FP and still be able to see most of it outside of the "seating" area. If I were you, I'd check the FP machines when you arrive after work. If there are FPs, great! If not, walk on over when the show starts and see if you can get a decent viewing spot without one. Either you'll see the show and be happy or decide it's worth it next time to show up earlier and get an FP. I wish I lived nearby and had an AP! :)
