Need help with some cabin questions Please and Thank U!

Hi there!

My family of 5 plus my nephew will be in a cabin from May 5th - 12th this year (only 55 days away!!!!). I need some help as I have a ton o' questions.

Is the couch big enough to sleep a small 10 yr old? My dd may not want to share a bedroom with the boys and I am not sure I want her to. So she may elect to sleep on the couch, if big enough. I've read they are comfy. She can sleep on the floor, in a corner in her room and be happy - she's done it - she likes the floor so the couch is an upgrade in my book!!!

How do we get from check in to the cabins with our luggage? We aren't gonna cough up the dough for a GC so - how does this work?

What is the best loop to be on? We would like to be as close to the main pool as we can and also a bus stop as well. Is this possible?

How hard is it to identify your cabin after a long night at the parks, perhaps Epcot, when your drinking yourself around the world? Should we put some lights or something on our cabin to make it more identifiable?

How about that segway tour? Good or not? Kinda pricy but wonderin if my dh who isn't thrilled about going back to WDW would like it.

Would it be safe to let the kids roam around like we do at the campgrounds here in MI? They are 16, 14, 12, 10 and they would stay together but do people let the kids go or pretty much no? They may wanna do the arcade and my dh and I may not.

Lastly, and thanks for keeping with me here, if you had a spouse that isn't thrilled with going back to WDW but your pretty much making him or her, what will picq their intrest here? My dh loves camping and loves "up north" in MI will be get that same lovin feeling in the south? Are their trails to walk and such?

We are campers by nature and love it - can't beat the lake site camping spots in MI!!! Lake MI is the best! I would love to camp in a camper at the Fort but unfortunatly that takes getting a new rig (ours got totalled on the Might Mac Bridge a few years ago ).

I'll take a stab at your questions. We used to stay in the cabins all the time before we turned into "real" campers.

Here you go:

Yes. But the couch is right next to the murphy bed, so there will be a lot of togetherness there.
How do we get from check in to the cabins with our luggage?

There is luggage service-they will take your bags to your cabin.

What is the best loop to be on? We would like to be as close to the main pool as we can and also a bus stop as well. Is this possible?

If you can get in the 2100 loop, that is the closest loop to the main pool, and there is a bus stop right across from the loop entrance.

How hard is it to identify your cabin after a long night at the parks, perhaps Epcot, when your drinking yourself around the world? Should we put some lights or something on our cabin to make it more identifiable?

The cabins do all look alike, but this should not be too big of a problem. If you are really going to do the drink around the world thing, then maybe some lights would help, but you will have bigger problems than just finding your cabin.

How about that segway tour? Good or not? Kinda pricy but wonderin if my dh who isn't thrilled about going back to WDW would like it.

The Segway tour is $85. I would rather spend $55 on a golf cart rental, which your whole family, including your DH would enjoy for a whole day and night!

I think your kids are old enough to travel around the Ft. on their own. I would make sure that one of them has a cell phone or radio just in case.

If your DH likes camping, he will love the Fort. If you get him there, you will be fine.

As far as having bigger problems if we drink around the world - your right we might just get on the wrong bus and end up lost . We did that last year without any cocktails - but then again I am directionally challanged and after 17 years of marrige you would think my dh would know that about me, yet he always asks me for directions!!!! So with or without a few beers we might not be able to find our cabin hence needing something to identify it!!!!

One more question - is the Trails End a counter service place or a table service place or neither?

How old do you have to be to operate a GC? The 16 year old has his license.

Trail's End is a buffet restaurant with limited take out. Here are the current (as of last month) take out menus for lunch and dinner:

The chicken dinner is the best deal on WDW property. And the pizza, while not the best in the world by any measure, is also a good meal option for a group like yours.

A 16 year old with a drivers' license is allowed to drive a Ft. Wilderness rental cart. It was a big day when my oldest DD was finally allowed to drive a cart, and it is one of her favorite things to do. You and the DH could send all the kids out to the pool and arcades and such on the cart, and have a nice quiet time at the cabin.

The 16 year old could also be your chauffeur from the bus stop to the cabin after your drinking around the world excursion. That would considerably increase the odds that you get back to the right cabin.

A set of "tacky" lights on the deck rail may help to ID your cabin, don't forget an electric cord.

I'll comment on your DH. After going to WDW several times in our 5th wheel - my DH will do the parks some but really enjoys the campground. Often we'll start the day together at a park, maybe return to the campground for lunch and a break and then go to a different park that night. It isn't unusual at all for him to stay at the campground after lunch and meet up with us later (cell phones are wonderful). I guess my point here is not be too set on 'doing everything all together as a family'. Give him his time away from the parks if he needs it.

A funny story regarding the cell phones - my DH called me when he had arrived at MK to let me know he was there and find out where I was so we could meet. With all the commotion of the rides, etc - I could not hear him well at all. I told him where I was and tried best I could to walk him to the area - but really didn't have a good conversation with him and was feeling frustrated. While I was on the phone with him - someone tapped me on the shoulder - it was him! That was all before text messaging - so that would be a better option for me

I would have forgotten the exten. cord. Thanks for mentioning that!

I am not sure I would bring lights but I think it's a great idea. I saw a pix of someone who had done that with white rope lights - I thought it was cool, but it's one more thing I have to remember to pak in the suitcase!

Who knows... I sure everyone else but me wouldn't have a problem finding the cabin. I could get lost going home from work! The compass in the car confuses me more than it helps kwim?!

Yes...our 16 year old DS who is 5'10 slept there BY HIS CHOICE. Looked crazily uncomfy to me but at 16 I guess you don't care!

If you to DME, they will bring them to the cabin for you. If you do DME but don't use it for your bags, like we did, then at check in tell them you need van service and they will drive you to your cabin with your stuff!

Main pool loops are 2200/2300. 2700/2800 will get you super close to the cabin pool and the outpoast.

LOL! Request a cabin at the front or end of the loop (aka closer to the bus stop) and try to remember your loop. Some people do lights, not a bad idea. Or you can be like us, keep the cabin fridge stocked for that "last" drink on the deck after the kids go down...helps in finding the cabin.

You know your kids. I'd be sketchy on the 10yo personally but then again alot of it would depend on how much I could trust the older ones to watch him. In my house/cabin...we'd have a radius restriction based on where we were and where they wanted to go. REALLY depends on the kids. The 10yo comment is based on my brood of 4 (16,12,9,8)

YES! Trails to and from WL, you can walk, bike, run. You can kayak and so so many things! I'd make sure to have one "lazy" day at the Fort where you can escape the crowds and just feel like you are in a cabin in a lovely national park. Although having stayed in the cabins at Yellowstone...I'll take the Fort! I don't know about the Segway. DH and DS16 did SeaRaycers one day and had a blast. Me...well I went for a massage You could send your DH next door to WL for one as well (ask for Rachel) if he gets too stressed.

We are tent campers (or backpackers) so for me, the whole camper thing, just isn't camping to me (sorry I may get flamed for that lol!). The cabins are that perfect hybrid. Not a condo, not a hotel, no tent to sweep off at the end (I hate breaking camp!) but juuuuuuuust right

One thing that WILL help actually is the ABSENCE of a GC or car at your cabin. It helped us everytime! See....silver lining.
