what is the process of getting an exchange? what are the steps I need to take?
Can I see resorts available before I deposit pts?
Do I need to make a DVC ressie to deposit?:confused3:confused3:confused3

No DVC reservation is required. You can ask MS to see what is available when you call, but if you have expiring points you'll be better off if you bank them into the World Passport Collection for future use. If the points are not restricted you can get up to 2 years of use from them. Restricted points (near end of Use Year, Holding Account) will have other restrictions and MS will advise about those options.

Doc, I talked to a CM at MS that check on my holding pts if I cancell the ressie. He said if I bank them into RCI before June 17 ( even the holding pts) they would be good till Dec 2013. Does this sound right?
June 17 is the cut off date for deposit I guess.

I fell like sgt. SCHULTZ on HOGANS HEROS

" I KNOW NOTHING"

I guess there's no site where we can see what's available, right.

I thought that's the way it has usually worked in the past, but was corrected in another thread about banking points into WPC. If they will allow you to bank the Holding points into WPC and get an extra 18 months out of them, that sounds like the way to go.

There is no online option at this time for making reservations or even viewing availability with RCI when going thru DVC. MS has to look at the options for you. RCI members can see availability online to use their weeks or points, but DVC controls that on their end since they hold the RCI corporate membership. You can have them do an ongoing search for you if you want a sepcific resort or have a specific week you're looking for - but again, MS will need to initiate that for you.

Good luck! :)

thanks Doc I get it now, Paul

I will double check on the holding pts for RCI again.

I was told that unless you have an exchanged already booked and cancelled that you can only deposit a weeks worth of points. Ex: We had a 4 day trip booked and had to cancel due to my DS having surgery. Those points were banked with the WPC. I have a few more that are going to expire the end of September. I could not put them into the WPC unless I deposited a whole weeks worth of points, which is not what I was looking to do. MS has always been very helpful in checking the RCI locations that I have been interested in. I have made several exchanges and have 2 more booked for the summer. :)

I think it depends on availability, timing in regards to UY. RCI considers a late deposit of 45 days or less (II was 60) and can be done with DVC up to 14 days out. Thus it would seem possible to get a deposit with RCI using holding account points that was not restricted. Since points are by day and assuming all points are in holding status, that the week deposited must start on F-S and that you need a full week, and that there must be a week available to deposit, that only gives you about a 2 week window for DVC to chose from for the actual deposit. If one is looking to use these type of points in holding, deposit first may be the best option.

There is no site to see availability using DVC but I think those of us with RCI accounts would willing to look here and there if the volume of requests doesn't get too bad.

IMO the best process to follow is to decide what you want in general terms (location options, unit size, etc) then look at the RCI-DVC list and chose the resorts that meet your criteria recording their resort codes. See if they have the unit size you want, look at what day of the week their weeks deposit tend to start on, etc. Then call DVC and check on availability. If not available, put in an ongoing search. Don't let the upfront fee deter you when you're playing with $2-3K worth of DVC points.
