Need help with OKW please!

My co-worker and friend graciously gave us 175pts to use. Paid for 1wk in a 1bdr at OKW (only thing available). I was hoping for VWL or AKV but thats okay... its free! Now, it will be just me and 4 kids (11, 9, 7 and 5) as daddy got a new job and cant get vacation time. My kids LOVE the water and swimming so we will spend a lot of time in the main pool with the slide. Where do I want to be near? Room request? I am also going to get refillable mugs.. will that be near the pool?

I haven't stayed at OKW yet, but I do know that to be really close to the main pool, you need to be near the Hospitality House. That is no longer a room request, but an actual booking category. You'll need to ask your friend/co-worker if you're booked in HH or not.

To get a lot of good info on OKW, you should post this on the DVC boards. You'll find a lot of OKW experts there

Actually, even if you are across from the main pool or "next" to it, it is a convenient walk to the pool.

You can request the "Peninsular area" - I think buildings 26 & no higher than 29, (otherwise you get close to the Turtle Pond road) but I can't be positive about those numbers now.

Someone else may be able to help with the building numbers.

When I stayed there last year I requested a room by the main pool and they put me way far away from the pool. You can take the bus back to the main pool or if you are driving you can drive. My advice is to talk to the Main Bell Hop. His name is Paul. Very nice and helpful. I told him I requested something close to the main pool and I was not happy with my location. He made a phone call and presto he found me a room in Bldg 14. Nice location right across from the main pool. It amazing what can happen when you talk to the right people. Good Luck

The buildings close to the Hospitality House now have a specific booking request. If your friend didn't request HH, then you won't be close to the HH. Sorry. But Turtle Pond area is very nice.

And like I posted on your other thread, forget about refillable mugs at OKW. Only two places to refill and only one is self service with very limited hours. The other is not self service and has even more limited hours. Just fill up the refrigerator with your favorite beverages. There is a large plastic pitcher in the kitchen, so make a pitcher of Kool-ade for the kiddos. Fill up a few water bottles (freeze them if you want to) and bring them to the pool in a Playmate or other little cooler.

Actually, we have used the refill mugs both of our stays, the most recent being for fifteen nights. We spend a lot of time at the main pool, its very easy to refill them at that station. I didn't find the hours any more limited than other resorts I have stayed at. The Value food courts are open until midnight and the refill station at OKW isn't open that late, but I can't imagine you would need to refill that late anyway. I know that I filled my mug as late as 10:30 a couple of nights. They were great for my family.

OKW is a great resort! If you aren't put near the HH, definitely ask about th Pennisular area. Its a short walk across to the HH and main pool. In fact, even though we stayed in Building 11 last time, we generally used the Pennisular Road bus stop since it was the first to be picked up and dropped off. It was easier at night to get off there and walk the short distance to our building rather than staying on the bus while it looped all over the place!

building 23-26 - would be my choice if you want close to HH - an safe area.

now building 11-14 are closer - but there is not a crosswalk between you and HH - the traffic here can get bad - so not a safe area for kids.

there is also building 62-64 - close to HH - these are the only building with elevators. - but again the kids have to cross a busy section.

get your friend to call back and request close to HH - building 23-26 if possible - because you won't have any help and you will have 3 small kids and one pre teen.

the slide is nice - but hey there are 3 other pools at OKW - so no matter where you are - you aren't far from a pool.

if you are in a not close section - never fear - just get on the bus (there are 5 bus stops) - the last stop is HH, the first stop is Peninsular Road -(building 23-26)
