I need some suggestions from my fellow Disers in the NY/LI area. DH and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary :bride: :groom: next month (9/18) and have decided to stay in the City for the weekend and see Wicked. We will be staying at a hotel in Times Square and would like to have a nice romantic dinner but don't know where to go. Anyone familiar with the restaurants in Times Square that can help?

Thanks :goodvibes

If your looking for something nice and romantic, stay as far away from Times Square as you can!

If you mean by expensive, I agree (although TGIF wasn't too bad when we went last December). We usually do day trips during the holiday season with our DS7 and try to stay away from TS because of the prices. This time we are going alone for a special occasion and would like to have an early dinner prior to the 8 pm show on the 18th. We don't want to stray too far from the Gershwin Theatre so that we can make the show on time. We're driving in on the 18th and check in at the hotel usually isn't until 3 pm.

The View Restaurant, at the mariott marquis
has a revolving rooftop...never been but it
sounds mighty romantic to me!!!

Funny you should mention that, LOL. That's the hotel we are thinking of booking (DH gets the Marriott reward points). I've looked at their menu and wasn't too keen on the choices.

Tell me a little bit about you guys so I can make a good recommendation. Are you looking for more formal, romantic or more informal, cozy? Is cost a factor, or not really? What kinds of food are your favorites?

Yes, your right, we celebrated our anniversary in nyc in april
and we didn't eat there for that reason, but for romance I
think it would be right up there! We love Rosie'OGradys, I
think its 52nd st. DH gets crab cakes and I love their Lobster
Ravoli. You will love Wicked! We also sat in on the regis and
kelly show, really enjoyed that!!! Have fun!!!!

Carmines on 44th street. You'll love it! Great Italian food.....absolutely a wonderful place.

Here's the link http://www.carminesnyc.com/.

I love Carmine's...but I think it's the opposite of romantic. It's very loud, and it's kind of hard to have a conversation in there. Plus, the food is served family style--so there's lots of it. You may end up with extra food (you probably will), and I don't think you want to lug it to the show. And I doubt you have a place to store it anyway.

All the places I love in Times Square are the big, loud places. Virgil's, Carmines, Ollies, etc. so I'm not much help there.

BECCO!!

although Bar American is a good one too!

You don't want to eat in Times Square- you want to eat in the theater district. Really romantic- one of the most I think -but it's $$$
Barbetta- They serve dinner in the garden in the summer(inside is beautiful too)

And I do believe there is a pre-theater dinner special here(not sure if I am remembering it right)

We are looking for a restaurant that is romantic. As far as formality - we differ on that. I don't mind business casual. DH wants to dress in suit and tie and would like me to dress like we're "going to the Met" (in his words, LOL). Way too dressy for me.

The type of food we like are seafood, Italian, American, Chinese and Japanese. For cost, $$ - low $$$ ($$$ - meaning total cost for both of us). Normally, we don't splurge that often except on special occassions like this one.

Rosie O'Grady's! I has the best fillet mignon I ever had, the staff treat you like royalty, and it's in the heart of Times Square, on the corner. It's very romantic.

Menus and details here. I live in NYC and I always take my visiting friends here. Dress is business style---suits and dresses/pants suits.

we've eaten at bistecca fiorentina a couple of times and had wonderful meals both times. its technically in hells kitchen I think, but easy walk to theatres (we've seen a show both times we ate there and the walk was nothing). its really charming without being stuffy, and small/bistro enough to feel romantic to me.
