Hi everyone,

In March 2006 we are taking my counsin for a stay at OKW. He is in an electric wheelchair and uses a lift to transfer. We are leaving for a trip next weekend but I am booking this trip for March 2006 prior to that. I am wondering if anyone knows or is able to find out for me the width of the door to the bathroom in a studio, and also the height under a queen bed. The lift needs to fit under the bed so the height would be measured from the floor to the first contact. The width of the bathroom door would need to be measured to see if it is wide enough to fit the lift/wheelchair through. We appreciate anyone who can help us out. We did consider the handicap rooms however, the beds and the door widths dont change. Oh yeah one more thing what is the cost of internet access per day. For some reason, and I know it should be easy to find, but I am unable to locate the information on that. Again we really appreciate the help.

Hi speed intenet is $9.95 per 24 hour period...if you start at 7pm Saturday, you have access until 7pm Sunday, etc. Local dial up would be the cost of a local call for each dial out. 35¢ for members, 75¢ for non-members.

I think all doorways are 36", although the bathroom door may be 30". If memory serves, under bed clearance is good, at least 6", maybe closer to 8". I don't think it is a full foot.

Be sure to request first floor or elevator bldg because of a wheelchair, and have it noted on the ressie. Only 3 bldgs at OKW have elevators.

I have never measured, but believe all the doors at OKW in a regular room are the same width - at least 32 inches (which happens to be the ADA requirement for door width for wheelchair accessibility). The handicapped/wheelchair accessible rooms would have a width of at least 32 inches. I know my DD's wheelchair fits thru all the doors in a regular room easily, but she has a narrow adult chair. I believe the doors are actually wider (36 inches).

We almost always stay in a 2 bedroom unit; my in laws are in the "studio" part of it. DH and I store a suitcase under the King size bed, but the queen size beds in the studio look the same. I measured and the suitcase we normally store under there is 10 inches high.
I don't this link will access a slidehow of OKW which has a picture from Deb Wills' site that shows the beds in a studio. (I looked first on the DIS, but we didn't have any pictures that showed). The link takes you to the slideshow of OKW; the one with the beds is slide 9.
You might also be able to tell from the picture whether or not the lift will fit between/beside the bed. My guess is not.
Slide 10 of that slideshow has a picture that shows the front door (on the left side) and the bathroom door to a studio.

Make your requests for first floor or building with elevator Medical requests and you shouldn't have a problem. (Make sure the confirmation sheet says Medical Requests or something similar).

You can also call Okw for specific measurements. They may transfer you around a bit until they can find the right person to answer your question. I called SSR when I had questions no one here could answer and if SSR didn't have a answer right then, they would call me back. Susan
