Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a scooter rental/ECV agency? Also, how well do the chairs fit inside minivans going to/from parks? One member of our group will need one for our stay and we wanted to avoid the risk of the parks not having one availble if we arrive later in the day. Thanx......

You should re-post this question on the disAbilities board. There is lots of info about scooters there.

I would suggest going over to the disABILITIES Forum. One of the first threads is the disABILITIES FAQs. On Post #2 we have a lot of information for people with mobility and/or stamina situations, including fairly detailed information about both on- and off-site rentals of ECVs and wheelchairs. To get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs from here just click on the link in my signature.

Thank you. I posted there, too. I was just hoping that there might be some more recent info out there.....Thanx.

I rent from apple scooters. I drive a small car and the scooter comes apart easily and it's not to heavy. Easily fits in my trunk. Easy to put together.

we've used scootorlando.com three times -- very reasonably priced and customer service was great!

The information in the disAbility FAQs is continually updated. Although the sticky is dated in 2004 (because that was when it was pinned to the board) the information contained in it is updated very frequently.

You should never look at the date on the top of a sticky on any board. They are pinned because they contain relevant information.

The companies listed in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread are the ones that Disboards posters have recommended for a long time. Different people have their favorites, but all of the listed ones are good.

I always rent from Walker Mobility, have for probably close to 20 rentals and never had any major problem with them, any problem was minor and taken care of within just a few minutes. The staff is always so friendly and I almost always talk to the same person and she always remembers me.

We drive a minivan and we (I guide more than anything, since my problem is my foot) are able to lift one of the Heavy Duty Extended range ECV's in there with no problem. We don't even take it apart, just remember to take the key out, one got broken off one morning when a valet driver was helping DH get it out, but no problem, Walker had them get a key from another ECV at the GF and they replaced that one later.

I vote for Apple. They have been more than willing to work with me even when I had a problem with my personal scooter. They went above and beyond trying to help me correct the issue I was having. We have also rented from them and it was an awesome experience!

I also think that they rent their scooters for less than anyone else and will also give a Disboards discount if you mention that was where you heard about them. I believe that is is around $150 or less for their scooters for a week.

Just as an FYI, if you want one for ease of putting in or out of a vehicle, then stick with a travel scooter, unless the weight of the person requires a bigger scooter.

This will be my third year renting from apple and they are great. Michelle
