I have gotten into a habit the past few days. I have gotten a big hunger pang right around 10 pm. Two days ago it was bad.....big carb binge. Last night not too bad in terms of eating allowable foods--bacon wrapped in lettuce. I hardly want to eat bacon before bed, though. I checked a ketostick this morning and it registered ketosis.

Anyone have suggestions for what is going on and how to stop it??

my bedtime snack generally consists of
1) celery with cream cheese
or
2) Pepperoni with cheddar cheese cubes.

I usually get hungry in the evening also, but I find I eat so much less at meals that I kind of expect it. Also, we are encouraged to not go more than 6 waking hours with out eating, so a snack is fine. (But it should be on plan. :p )

Have you started eating any new foods recently? Could you have had some hidden sugars somewhere that reawakened your cravings? Are you eating enough at dinner? Are you getting enough fat? From what I understand, it's the fat that keeps you satisfied.

Maybe you could have a bit of cheese or a few nuts around 8 or 9 and that would keep the cravings away?

Hi A!!! You've been give some good advice. I would like to also suggest sugarless gum if you are allowed. I find that I just like to have something in my mouth late at night but I don't want to eat a heavy snack. The gum keeps my mouth busy and also makes me thirsty which makes me drink more water, which gives my stomach the sensation of being full.

Also on SBD we are encouraged to have dessert after dinner, can you have dessert? Perhaps you can save dessert for right before bed. Don't be too envious of the dessert every night thing because we need to keep it around 75 calories and it's hard to find dessert around those calories. I usually have a ff fudgesicle, cup of hot tea or an occasional 1/2 cup of no sugar added ice cream. I've had to give up the ice cream though because I was having it too often and it is 100 calories. Hope this helps you a little.

Try not to worry too much about cravings at night time. I get them too. The key i think is to drink more water and to have something handy that you can allow yourself at night. Last week i started having a cup of yogurt about 3-4 hours afters after dinner. Its only 60 calories, and makes me feel nice and filled for the rest of the night.

Do the cravings start around the same time every night? You could eat some protein with fat or sugar free jello with whipped cream a 1/2 hour earlier if you can pinpoint the time the cravings usually start.

Lisa is correct, it is the fat that makes you feel "full". So even if you eat bacon wrapped in a lettuce leaf be sure and eat some mayo with it. Makes a huge difference in my experience :)

Boy can I relate...........I have always been late to bedder and sit in front of the computer eating anything. I have put an end to that. Heres what I do.
When I eat dinner.....I drink lots of water before and after and really try to fill up.
After hours if I am hungry I drink a hugh cup of decaf coffee.
Also brush your teeth.......When I brush it's like a sign (subconsiously) that I am done eating for the day!
Of course the obvious....try and change your sleeping pattern.
But of all the brushing teeth works good for me!
good luck

I usually get hungry if I have nothing to do. So I've been keeping busy with reading and scrapbooking (I'm getting a lot done of both). I keep sugar free Jello and low sugar pudding around to help with the cravings for something sweet. Sometimes Celery and Peanut butter or Celery and creamcheese are yummy. And peanuts! :)

LOL here I am giving you late night suggestions.........and just last night I fell asleep about 11 then got up about 12:30 and pretty much ran to the kitchen and got some oreo cookies and milk.
This was quite stange I think perhaps I may have had a quick dream about this.
Although, I have eaten a cookie in the wee hours (baby still gets up) but never a small meal like that.....
