OK so here it is!

We are flying over form the UK for 2 weeks of disney fun!! and getting married during these two weeks. We then wanted to fly onto Cuba but have been told we can do this so are now stcuk as to what island to go for, we have been to antigua this year so cant choose that island.
Our choices are:
Bahamas
Jamaica
St Lucia
Barbados

We want somewhere a bit special as we have been to many islands before so dont want it to be a normal holiday

We dont really want sandals as theya re VERY expensive for us over here

Let me know what you think?

Well, I'm not really a great help as I haven't been to any of these, but would love to go to any to be honest!
Have you considered a Disney Cruise? You could go for an Eastern Disney Cruise for 7 nights and you would stop off at St Maartan, St Thomas/St John and Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. Or the Western Disney Cruise for 7 nights which stops off at Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Castaway Cay. I'm going on the 3 nights Cruise, and from what I've heard it sounds wonderful and so relaxing. You could opt for a private balcony (we have). You should check it out, I never gave it a second thought before, but after reading up about it, I decided it was a must do. It looks so relaxing and I think it would be a wonderful, romantic end to your honeymoon.
We are doing it at the tail end of our honeymoon and I can't wait after reading all the wonderful reviews about it.
Sorry I can't be more help:cutie:

we did look at a royal caribbean western cruise but we decided against a cruise 1. we have never cruised before and were a bit worried about it 2. we thought waking up in a different port every day and having to see a bit of each island would not be too relaxing

So we then thought a 7 night beach holiday would be better

I have a friend who travels around the caribbean a lot, and he says that in his view the best beaches to be had are in St Lucia, but you should bear in mind that part of the beauty of that island is the lush green tropical mountains to look at from the beach. That often means the resorts are on hill sides and will have a fair number of steps to negotiate that some people don't like!

We very nearly went to Jamaica, to a resort in Negril, but at the last minute just felt it wasn't right for us. Jamaica seemed very touristy and developed (which can be good or bad depending what you are looking for). We were also warned that the crime rate in Jamaica is higher than other islands (although this seems to be worse in some parts of the island than others).

I am sure that so long as you choose your resort sensibly and think hard about what you want out of your honeymoon you will have a great time on any of the islands you mention!

The questions that DF and I asked ourselves were:

What size hotel do we want to stay in? Super small where people talk to each other, mid size where it's secluded or large scale with a lot of facilities?

Are you going to spend all your time on the beach, or do you want to be able to do any activities or trips? Or will you want to be able to get to a nearby town?

Do you want an all-inclusive resort, which has the advantage that it's all pre-paid, or do you want lots of choice and want to go to a new restaurant every night?

How long do you want the flight to be from Orlando? Is it essential that it's a direct flight? (check Expedia for flight routes!)

Do you want to be ON the beach, or NEAR the beach?

Have fun planning! :thumbsup2

You might want to look at Atlantis resort in the carribean. We and probably doing a 4 or 5 night stay after a 6 nights stay at disney for pre and post wedding activities. They can be all inclusive if you get one of the dining packages and they also have romance packages which include other amenities like spa and excursion trip and they have the dining built into them too. their site is www.atlantis.com

I have been to all but Jamaica. I would rank them in this order (excluding Jamaica seeing no personal experience):

St. Lucia
Barbados
Bahamas

Both St. Lucia and Barbados were less touristy than Bahamas. St. Lucia was absolutely gorgeous. I remember the water being emerald green and clear. From what I remember, they also had black sand beaches. Barbados was beautiful too. It has a little more city life stuff, but it also has its remote. *I must put a disclaimer here. The islands may have changed since I went in 97* The Bahamas (Nassau) was extremely touristy, and didn't really have any tropical island feel to me.

I hope this helps.

thats for all your help, I have been to jamaica before but my DF hasnt and I loved it there so I am leaning towards that but I love the look of the bahamas and especially atlantis but its quite expensive from here

I was also looking at breezes bahamas if anyone has any thoughts on that resort

If you're really dead set on Cuba, you might be able to fly to Mexico or Canada and get a flight from there. Obviously Mexico is closer, but I don't know if they have flights to Cuba or not, but I do know that I have Canadian friends who have been. US citizens aren't allowed to go. Stupid, but true

Forgot to add, it's not on your list but I love Aruba. There's lots of touristy stuff to do- shopping, jeep tours, etc..... but it's also possible to spend plenty of time just relaxing on the beach. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Given the chance though, our next tropical vacation will be to Turks & Caicos. We were supposed to go there and had to cancel because I was pregnant.

We're going to aruba and I'm so excited! Our travel agent and my future brother in law's girlfriend both said it was their favorite island and it's supposed to be positioned in a place where you don't have to worry about hurricanes hitting it.

from what I've seen it looks beautiful and I hear the locals there are super friendly and there is hardly any crime.

good luck!

I had an awesome time there. It really is great and I would go back in a heartbeat if given the chance. With a family of five though the airfare is downright frightening. I hope you have a great time!
