Hi. Our tentative plan is to fly into LAX, shuttle to GC, rent car to drive to San Diego for few days, then return car to LAX for flight home. Any ideas how to go about the rental? Do we rent near Disney, then return to airport? Or go back to airport to rent and return at same place? I'd welcome any ideas. Thanks.

We have a very similar plan. But we are flying into the Orange Co. airport. It is much closer to Disney and the shuttle prices are cheaper.

If you go to the car rental web sites you can just fill out the form to check rates and when it asks you where to pick up and return fill out what you want to check rates. I have checked into picking up a car at Disney and returning it to the airport. Some of the places will quote the same rate and some will be higher. Most were the same.

My only wuestion about all of this is where are the rental car pickup places at Disney? That part i am not sure of. We are staying at the DLH and I don't know how to get over to ? to pick up the car? Maybe someone else could answer that part for both of us?

If there are 2 or more of you travelling, I think when you factor in the cost of the shuttle, you will find that the cost of just renting a car for the entire visit will be much less than doing a one-way rental.

If you have Disney Club, use both of their discounts with National - it does work - put in both the coupon ID and contract ID from both discount offers and you will get both. You do have to take the coupon with you. We are members of Emerald Club and use the Emerald Aisle service quite often, and it works very well for us. I think my National rental cost me $22 per day for an intermediate with the discounts figured in, including fees and taxes.

I'd have to agree with teri.

What's this world coming to?!?! ;)

You may find that it's cheaper to have a car collecting dust at the hotel for a few days, than it is to take a shuttle and then rent later.

Plus, there won't be the headaches of trying to find the rental locations around DL, or of worrying about extra fees for not returning the car to the same location you picked it up.

But, if you stick to your plan, most of the rental locations are located at neighbor hotels (I believe). So one company might have a few cars at a local Best Western, and another at the Candy Cane Inn (for example...I have no clue what hotels actually house the rental cars). All of the hotels that have rental car "outlets" are located right outside DL though, so it's a relatively short walk to them from the park gates.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check with National and see how the rate looks to keep the car the whole time. I guess it sure sounds like the easiest way to do it.:)
