We decided to get DH's parents pictures of all the kids/grandkids for Christmas. There are 15 of us total. 7 adults and 8 kids. 6 girls(my 4 girls and a 6yr & 3 yr old) and 2 boys(they are both 1).
What should we wear? I was thinking all the adults could wear black and the kids could wear red?? I really don't want to do white because we have so many family pictures of us in white(I'm kinda sick of it, LOL)
Does anyone have big group pictures to share?
Thanks for any advice or tips!!

Avoid Bright Colors and Bold Patterns in Clothing. The idea of a portrait is to see the
face of the subject. Brightly colored clothing and bold patterns draw the eye away from
the subject's face.

My in laws have 21 grandkids, at their last anniversary party each kid wore a jersey or sweatshirt with the number representing the order of birth. My kids wore 1 and 2 cuz they are the oldest.

Neat idea!

We're planning to do one with DH's siblings and we're all going to wear jeans with a different color polo top for each family.

Put the school aged kids in their school t-shirts. Put the adults in shirts from their alma mater or armed service they served in. Anyone who that doesn't apply to, should pick their favorite pro team.

It will make for a picture you'll look back at for a long time.

We did a family portrait for my mom's 75th birthday in may, and the photographer suggested no patterns and we thought about choosing a few colors, or one color, but there are 17 of us, and it just was easier to say no patterns, and it worked out well. We also did pics of each individual family, and for my mom's gift we gave her an 11X14 of the group, and 8X10s of her 5 kids and their families, her grandkids, and her and us 5 kids. It was a lot of fun, and she loved the pictures.
Heres' the group- not great quality cuz it was scanned.

are you having the photo professionally done

We had some photos done of our kids with the other grand kids for my in-laws. We had each family in a different solid color (green for us, blue for one set of grand kids, red for another, etc). Worked our pretty nice.

We are going to a studio. I was thinking each family could wear 1 color. The 6 of us would wear black(with jeans) and my BIL's families would wear red and the other white or ivory. Then we have 1 BIL who isn't married.........what color should he wear???
Thanks for the ideas! This is a surprise for my FIL and MIL.

red is really not a good color, it tends to reflect light onto faces givving them a red color cast, if you color correct for those faces others will be off,

if you are going to a studio, I would suggest calling them to see what they recommend, different colors work better with certain color backgrounds

I would think that would make him really stand out from everyone else, which would possibly make him uncomfortable, but even more important would be distracting, since the eye would gravitate towards the odd color.

I recently read a great article on what to wear for group ortraits, and unfortunately can't find it again.

they suggested that clothing should be the same key as the background, light for light backgrounds, dark for dark backgrounds, the reason being, then the faces stand out more
