Hi all -

I'm going to BLT Sept 7 - Sept 12. My Dad was a DVC member and willed his points to his kids - until probate is over the executor of the estate (a lawyer - who charges $400 an hour).

I want to request a room on an upper floor (I'm getting a 2 bedroom lake view) -
can I call DVC and request that? Will they talk to me - my name is on the reservation - but not on the membership (only the executor is on the membership)

I also want to ask about early check in?

Is there anything else I need to ask them about- other special requests - things I should do?

If I do have to get the lawyer to do a 3 way call with me - I wanna make sure I can take care of everything all in 1 swoop!

Thanks so much - Gwen

Unfortunately, they will most likely not talk to you until you're actually named on the deed.

As far as early check-in, there really is nothing to ask. Your room maybe ready, it may not. You can "check-in" anytime after 6 or 7 am, once the resort's computers have reset for the day. But your room may not be ready until after 4pm.

As far as upper floor, you do not need to be on the line, the attorney should be able to make the request for you, but even if s/he calls, it is only a request...you may not get it.

I'd simply ask at check-in if you can get an upper floor room, your odds are just about as good asking at check-in as they are if you have it listed as a request on your reservation.

Ask the lawyer if he will add your name (or one of your siblings) to the membership now as an Associate.

Associates can make reservations (and thus talk to MS about them), but do not have access to any of the financial info about the membership.

As an Associate, you could add Magical Express to reservations, add the Dining Plan (which you would pay for upon arrival), add requests, etc.

Sorry for your loss. What a nice way to remember your father -making more wonderful memories at one of his favorite places.

Considering requests are only requests and early check-in will depend on room availability, I cannot see your requests being worth $400/hour! You may not get any of them, and as Chuck said, you have just as good a chance by simply asking at check-in--possibly better, as all of my rooms have been assigned as I'm standing there and the CM can look for what I asked for.

The only request I've ever made to member services is when we stay at SSR and request Grandstand. Otherwise I just ask at check-in by saying, "If there's any chance of getting a room near or away from xyz that would be great, if not that's fine too." Every single time we have gotten what we asked for.

You probably won't want to do the online check-in to avoid having a pre-assigned room. (Not sure you can do this anyways--do you go to dvcmember.com or disneyworld.com?--haven't done it yet myself).

Carol, can anyone add their children as associates?

I did that - you can do it online at the DVC member site. I assume you mean adult children. They do not have membership privileges but can make reservations and talk to MS about them as well as set up ADRs and ME.
