We are wanting to go for 9 nights and a few of those nights we need the 2 bedroom at SSR and the others we need just the 1 bedroom. But we don't know when the other couple will be able to come. Should I just wait to get their dates and then book the whole trip or what? We are looking to go 11/28-12/7

Thanks,
Margaux

P.S. New to this whole thing as you can tell, we just got our paper work and know I can book now if we want to. But I need to understand how to book this first :O)

IMHO, you can wait to book - at least for a few months. I'd even chance it up to just before the 7 month window opens. Even then you shoudl be OK. SSR is large and thus doesn't book nearly as quickly as the others.

Best wishes -

P.S. If yo are too nervous to wait and have a few extra points, book a 1 bedroom and a studio for now. Then change to what you really need or want when the other couple is able to commit. That way if the other couple decides not to go at all - you can just cancel the studio reservation.

It would be easier to have all the information and book, but to be safe I would book a 1 bed room for the entire length of stay then when plans solidify, (hopefully soon... Christmas season becoming increasingly popular with DVC'ers), call MS and change the 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom on the nights in question.

perhaps you can request a one br with lockoff and advise ms at a later date which days you will need the extra room and which days it should be locked off?

don't think you can do that. If you book a 1 bedroom then want to add the studio you would have to make a new ressie for a 2 bedroom

If you have enough points without borrowing, book a 1 BR and a 2 BR for the entire stay. If you don't have enough points, next option would be to book the 1 BR & 2 BR for weeknights only. If you'll have to borrow points to do the 2 BR period, I'd simply book the 1 BR for your stay then try to change any dates you need to a 2 BR when you know the dates. Of course you could get your 1 BR then add a studio for them for the days you need. You could eve ask they be separate but connected if you want. A few more points than simply getting the 2 BR but a guarantee of not changing units and a more flexible reservation if they change their mind in any way.

As noted, you can't simply add a studio to a 1 BR nor can you simply drop a studio from a 2 BR to make it a 1 BR. And no way to guarantee you'll be in the same unit for the 1 BR vs 2 BR portions. Thus if you had a 1 BR reservation with a 2 BR for a few days in the middle, it's possible you could have to change units two times.
