My sisters family is joining us in June. On their check in day we are planning to spend the late afternoon and evening at AK. That way it is an early night as they will have had a long day of travel. They will be ready to head to the park at about 2:30 and I would like to book a late lunch or early dinner. Where is best? Rainforest? Tusker House? or should we "go with the flow" and plan on counter service? I am sure they will be ready to eat as soon as we get to the park.

Another thought? Should I just plan on the food court at Music and not try to eat at the park at all?

My brother in law is very skeptical about this trip (he wanted to cruise again) so I want the first evening to set a nice tone!

thanks so much!!!!

I'd go for Flametree BBQ counter service in AK - that way you have plenty of flexibility time-wise. And if their travel plans get really messed up, can always just eat at resort.

Tusker House is good buffet food -- has a few slightly exotic dishes but mostly just regular Disney buffet -- good for table service if you have some picky eaters, but you will have to get a reservation for this one which might be hard since they're just arriving that day (never know what kind of delays they might have traveling.)

I'd go with an late lunch or early dinner at Tusker House. The food is really good and you can take your time and relax. We also love Flametree and that way you would be able to adjust to a possible late arrival. We always like to check in and go straight to a park to get something to eat. It just seems like a good way to get the vacation going...:goodvibes

If you want to just take it easy and go with the flow I would eat the Flame Tree CS..if you want to book a restaurant I would go with YAk and Yeti. I have never been but I see great reviews on here.

We love Flame Tree BBQ but Yak & Yeti was awesome!

Since Yak and Yeti has a table service venue AND a counter service venue, which one is the one you prefer? I'd hazard a guess you meant the table service part of it.

We had a very nice dinner at Tusker House. One of the problems with AK in June will be heat. Most of the CS places there require you to eat outside which is not much fun if it's stinking hot and humid, as it will be.

Another option is Rainforest Cafe, too, but the food there is mediocre.

We always hit Flametree BBQ at AK- DH likes the BBQ and I like the kid's hot dog (I'm a picky eater and mostly eat the kid's meals unless DH & I share) :)
