Need help making sure I have this right

We are looking at a DVC trip this November but have held off on reservations so far because my husband may end up with a work conflict. I want to make sure that if we have to change / cancel reservations that this would work - help!
We have a Sept UY and would be booking the trip for Nov with points from our Sept 2011 allotment plus a few from our Sept 2012 allotment. If we end up needing to canel the Nov trip - by Sept or at the very least Oct we should know for sure - those points will go back to our 2011 UY and could be used any time up through the end of Aug 2012 - right? What if - worst case scenario - we would need to cancel in November - we still keep points in 2011 but would have limited time to call for reservations - right?
If we do make the reservations and cancel them - our back up trip would be in July 2012. I just want to make sure that would still be a possiblity if November falls through before I decide on trying to book it. TIA!

If you book a Nov 2011 trip with your Sept UY, and then cancel at least 31 days out, all the points would be eligible for the July 2012 trip.

The 2011 UY points would still be bankable as well (in case you could not reschedule) since you have until April 30th, 2012 to do that.

The borrowed points would indeed need to be used by August 31st, 2012.

Now, if you cancel less than 31 days in advance but prior to check in day, then all points become holding points and you will have to use them by August 31st, 2012 but will only be able to book 60 days out or less. So, for July 2012, you will have to wait until May 2012 to book the trip.
