I thought Paul would make a cute scarecrow this Halloween. I have some old overalls and a flannel shirt to use. I cute out fabric patches to glue all over, since I dont sew. Other than that, I'm stumped. I want to find a way to have "straw" poking out of his pants legs and shirt cuffs - but I can't figure out what to use and how to do it so that it won't bother him and will stay attached. Any suggestions on how to do that, or any other suggestions at all? I know you guys are really good at this sort of thing!

my daughter was a scarescrow last year, this is what I did, I put rafia coming out of all the pockets by sewing them there. I also added patches and sewed the rafia coming out of them. if i can get the picture out of photshop ( it being held hostage) i will post her picture.

Thanks! I would LOVE to see a picture!

Ok, get a pillow case and cut eye and mouth holes in it. Paint red circles for cheeks and one for the nose, just paint that up like a face. you can make that into a mask for him. *tuck it into his shirt and stick straw around the edges. Do you have mittens? He could wear those, with his sleeve buttoned up and you could stick the straw between the two of them. A straw hat with straw 'hair' superglued onto the inside of the brim would be good too.

I would suggest gettting a raffia grass skirt from the costume store, they are cheap. You can cut it up into small segments and sew a small section around each cuff on the shirt sleeves and then a small section coming out of each leg, the skirts are easy to deal with because the raffia is attached to the waist band of the skirt and you can just hand sew the waist band sections around the cuffs. then use the rest to stick in strategic places.

And now that you've told us what you're doing, WE WANT PICTURES!!! :teeth:

DD/8 was also a scarecrow last year. I went to the pet dept and found some of the small felt "mice" cat toys. I hot glued them coming out of the pockets! I also put a couple of fall flowers coming out of a pocket or two. Her overalls were a little big, so I used a piece of Halloween material and tore it to make a belt. For a little added humor, I took a straw hat, glued a few fall flowers on it and then hot glued some blackbirds to it. I also used a hula skirt and hot glued to the inside of the shirt sleeves and pant legs. I then painted her face with an orange triangle nose, then black for long eyelashes and bright red circles on her cheeks. I wanted to post a pic, but at home I have crappy old dial up and can't the pic to download. She actually won best costume for the entire elementary school. She was so tickled. Good luck with your costume!
