I am curious about this Disney Card that I was told you could purchase at either Kroger or a Disney Store Near Me ... its sort of a Disney Gift Card that holds increments up to $1500 and you can add money to it.

Well, God Forbid, but what if something happened and I didn't end up taking this trip in 2011 that I plan on, am I then stuck with a Disney Gift Card that I may NEVER USE or, is there some way to use that card on other than Disney Purchases (or get your money back off of the card....) this would be a worst case scenario but I thought Id ask before I buy

The gift card that is offered in grocery stores is the same as I have purchased online. You can't add money to it unless you are at Disney. Trust me I ended up with tons of them. I don't believe you can get your money back but you can use it to purchase items at the Disney Shopping website. The good thing is they never expire so if you can't take your trip when planned but are taking a trip at another time you can still use them.

You'd be stuck with it unless you sold it to a family member/friend or used it on Disney.com

I would not start putting money on a Disney gift card until you KNOW you are going. Personally, what we do is...we have an enveloped marked "Disney Spending $$$" every week DH and I each throw $20-$25 in it (money we barely miss). Then what we do on vacation is charge everything to our room and then when we go home, deposit the cash back in the bank and pay the CC bill off immediately.

Exactly what we did with yard sale money and misc extra cash. :thumbsup2

We also save our change and roll that before our trip...usually good for an extra $200-$300.

I buy mine through mypoints or fatwallet when I know I am going. Of course with us there is always another trip to Disney. They do not expire but you cannot get the money back.

Wrong ~ I've added $$ to exsisting Disney GCs several times, most recently last week. You call DelivEARS ~ 800-362-4533 *you give the CM your credit/debit card info and they mail you the receipt ~ the $$ was on my GC the next day.....

Good to know. I have tried numerous times and was never able to do so. I talked with over 5 CMs about this for both trips and I was told I can't add money.

I'd love to know too. I have never been able to buy them through mypoints. Is this new? What you can do on MyPoints is get a Landry gift card. I did that last trip and paid for Yak and Yeti with it

you can purchase them thru disneystore.com thru the mypoints link. What i need to know is if I get my 3 points per dollar when i do this. If so, then that's what I am doing to pay for my vacays this year.

No gift card purchases are not valid. I did it and it did not go through.

Getting points for gift cards is hit or miss but usually miss. I was able to get most of my souvie money last year doing this but I tried it out this year and it didn't go through.

See, I knew there was a reason why I ask you all for information :)
This is what I learned here locally and I wanted to balance it against what I thought I had read here previously (when I initially heard about the card).

I was told you could buy it at Kroger or Disney itself which included this Disney Store in my hometown of Virginia Beach Virginia. Well, I called and got this highschool aged sweet girl on the phone and she did tell me that I could purchase the card from them and that I could start out small and keep adding funds up to $1500 there in the store (which is good for me if its true) because I would like to be diligent like one of the posters who said they kept their extra money in an envelope marked DISNEY. I do that, then my sister or someone gives me the woes me and I tend to feel sorry for them and fork it over. (sigh)...

I do stash cash and also roll my change but I thought this was a great way to set it aside and not be able to get to it until Disney Days Arrive :)

I really appreciate all the great input.. You all are very helpful

:confused3 ooops forgot to ask .... what are these points that i keep hearing about? Is there something I am missing that I can take advantage of?

Just wanted to add that personally I would not go that route unless you also already had a decent savings built up. God forbid you have an emergency (medical, car dies, etc) and need to get your hands on some money. If you had it in a savings account, you could access it, a disney card- no.

As far as loaning it out, you don't have to tell others where your money is going- they could "think" it is 1 place while it is in another. Be diligent- it is YOUR hard earned money.

The webisye is www.mypoints.com you get "points" for items purchased through their website, points if you qualify for a survey, points for just reading the emails and following the links, I use an email address just for mypoints as sometimes you can get alot of email After you earn a certain amount of points you can redeem them I've been with them for years its fun
