Hi!

I have never cooked shrimp in my life and don't eat it, but my DH loves the shrimp scampi from Red Lobster. I found a copy cat recipe on the net and it calls for 1 cup of white wine. What kind to I buy? I know they sell cooking wine, but I saw on a show once where they said not to use cooking wine to cook.

Can someone out there give me a clue?

Thanks!

Jess

don't buy cooking wine...there is usually added salt, etc, in it.

does the recipe say whether a dry or fruity wine is prefered? I did a quick search on a recipe site I like and the wine they suggest for shrimp scampi is a savignon blanc, or other dry white.

I make this same copycat recipe every Christmas and New Year's!!!! I use both shrimp and scallops in this recipe. I wrap the scallops with bacon. Yummy!!!! I use any drinking white wine that I have on hand and it always turns out good. My experience with the cooking time is different than what the recipe calls for. My actual cooking time is much longer.

Thanks guys!

I knew I could find the answer here! Does anyone have any tips when dealing with shrimp? I have never bought or cooked them before.

Mtemm - What recipe site do you like? I have been searching for a good one. Do they have alot of recipes from restaurants?

this recipe sounds FABULOUS
can someone pm me a copy of it??

I am the only one who will eat Shrimp in the immediate family so I always make it for family fnctions where everyone will eat with me :)

If you won't drink it by the glass, don't cook with it. Purchase a nice white that you'd enjoy to drink as well. (Ya know, sampling while cookin' :rotfl2: )
