I decided I want to spend the extra $$$ and am trying to convince dh to give it a try. We have gone several times in the past 2 years and always stayed at the Allstars. DH says, "Why pay more when we like it and the rooms are larger than the cruise ship." "DS loves the pool". "We can stay longer for the differance in $$$"

Please help and give me reasons for upgrading to POFQ or AKL for our stay at the end of September. For POFQ: What building would be best? Thanks for all your help in advance.

Sorry Kackie, your husband sounds like a very smart person. Who can really argue with "We can stay longer for the differance in $$$"? You may be able to talk him into a couple of nights at a moderate at the end of your regular stay. Personally, I am just as happy at the All Stars than at any of the WDW resorts.

Everyone is different but it wouldn't even be a question for us. We much prefer the POFQ to the All Star. Why?

The resort is much smaller. Only 1000 rooms. This makes the resort to "appear" less busy and not quite as crazy as it can get at the All Stars. The rooms are also a little bigger. Not much but a little. While we haven't stayed at All Stars, we did take a look at the room, and we noticed the difference. Many others may not.

We also prefer the "theme" of the FQ over All Stars. Again, a preference. We prefer the "greenery," the brick streets, the plants, fountains, alligators, jazz music, madigra theme in the food court area, the lounge at the pool and inside by the food court. And, they used to have live entertainment there. I'm not sure if they still do. We also like to walk down to Riverside and catch the lounge act there. Bob Jackson is wonderful and a very good family act. Hard to get a seat for him so you need to get there early or be ready to stand.

The boat to DTD is another draw for us. It is just a nice diversion. Plus, we enjoying being closer to DTD and Pleasure Island. This is especially true in the slow season since things close earlier except for these two places. Nice evening get away and it is close. They run both a boat to DTD and also one to Riverside. That is nice.

All in all, I think it comes down to what you prefer and what you are looking for in a resort. All of them are nice. I know I always look at staying at the deluxe resorts (especially YC) and every time when I compare the prices I keep going back to the moderate. So, I know exactly what is going on. Good luck with your decision. I'm sure you will have a great time wherever you stay.

Hi! I love POFQ. It is very peaceful and the CMs I have encountered have been very nice. It is beautiful and peaceful, and it has a great pool and slide area for the kids. I like bldg #4- close to the bus stop and everything else!
dcedwards described this resort perfectly, IMO. If it had a balcony, then I would be perfectly content there. That is the only thing it lacks.
I also love AKL, but maybe you could work your husband up to that slowly. ;)

I have stayed at the All Stars several time and was quite happy there. This past February I was lucky enough to get some great rates and stayed four days at Port Orleans and two at Animal Kingdom Lodge. AKL was great but I really loved PO. The resort was so secluded and peaceful. I loved strolling the beautiful ground. It was nice to have a spa which the All Stars do not have. We had a corner room and I enjoyed opening the blinds and soaking in the view. I am purchasing an annual pass this year (which by the way you can get some great room rate if you have one) and am planning several trips through the next year. I am planning one long one and will most likely stay at the All Stars or possibly the new Pop Century because I can stretch my resort budget over more days. For the shorter trips I will be staying at the moderates or better. Don't know if I'm helping or not but I'll worn you once you've stayed somewhere other than the All Stars it will be harder to go back! Good Luck - Let us know if you convince him or not.
