Need help choosing resort

Which resort would you pick for my family? 2 adults, 3 kids ages 9, 4, and 2......

At first I was thinking a Ft Wilderness Cabin would be perfect - stick the kids in the bedroom, adults in the murphy bed and we'd have a living room/kitchen, more space than a traditional hotel room....

But then AKL is around the same price - I love the deluxe resorts but I know it's hard being all in one room and having to go to bed at the same time....

We've stayed at both resorts but never with kids. The first time we took our oldest we stayed in a 2 br villa at Beach Club but that's way more than I want to spend this time....

Part of me says in the cabin our kids will probably wake each other up and are too young to sleep in another room unsupervised all together. And we'll get back to the room late and all crash together anyways.

I don't think we'll have a rental car and I know transportation at Ft. Wilderness can be a pain sometimes......

Which would you pick?

Whatever floats your boat, I'd want the balcony at AKL.

Of course I grew up vacationing in a holiday inn and I don't remember it being an issue that all 5 of us were in one space...i mean we were just sleeping/showering there...

If you can afford to rent a golf cart and plan to have ample time to do resort activities, I'd pick Fort Wilderness. It's peaceful there and there are so many things to do at the Fort. And squeezing 5 people into a standard Disney hotel room is not something I'd want to do. At Fort Wilderness, I'd probably keep the 2 year-old in the bedroom and let the 4 and 9 year old sleep together.

If you're going to be at the parks almost all the time, I'd pick Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's a lovely resort. My only issue with it is the idea of squeezing 5 people into one room.

They are both great choices but I would choose the cabin. Even when our (4) kids were small, that bit of separation did us all good. The other benefits of the cabin are the freedom to have a bit more space to run around outside and the chance to BBQ. That said I'm sure whatever you choose you'll have a great time

FWIW, 18 month old me was once entrusted to 9-13 YO cousins, who brought my buggy to the corner of the back yard nearest the woods where I was located, asleep, some hours later.
They'll be fine in a bedroom, if that's the most convenient thing for you. Don't feel bad about it.

When I ask my husband which shoes I should wear and I'm disappointed with his choice I know I should go with the other ones. Sounds like AKL might be your "other ones"

If you can afford to rent a golf cart and plan to have ample time to do resort activities, I'd pick Fort Wilderness. It's peaceful there and there are so many things to do at the Fort. This. We love a peaceful day at the Fort - swimming, the horses, the campfire (Chip and Dale!) and even a leisurely boat ride. Have you considered renting points to get a one bedroom at Animal Kingdom Lodge? It might be close to the same price.

We're staying in a cabin for the first time at Thanksgiving. We've been kicking this around for a long time and have finally pulled the trigger. We have stayed at AKL Savannah room which was great. The issue I see for your particular group is getting around. Ft. Wilderness almost requires a golf cart unless you don't mind the bus. I'd do AKL in your situation.

I would choose the cabin. I wouldn’t want to squeeze 5 people into a room at AKL. There’s also so much to do near the cabins.
