We were hoping to book our trip today for a stay at the Coronado Springs in November. It was a close decision between that and POR. Now we are reading a lot of reviews that says that CSR AND POR are so spread out that it will take you at least 15 minutes or to get from your room to the food courts, pool, buses, etc.

Staying at WL last time, everything was close by and we didn't walk very far. Now we are torn what to do. We don't want to spend the extra $2,000 to bump up to a deluxe. We need 2 rooms.

And I thought that CBR was the only resort that had people overstate the miles long walk from their room to the food court or pool.:confused3:headache:

I have not stayed at CSR, but it is bigger than POR. However, from looking at the map of CSR I can't see even the farthest room location being more than a 10 minute walk.

I have stayed at POR a couple times and never had more that a five minute walk.

Relax, take a deep breath and remember YOU ARE GOING TO WDW!!!!!

You can book a preferred room that is closer to everything. That is what we booked for CBR. I did stay at CSR in the Cabanas area and POR in Oak Manor, it did seem like a lot of walking but it may be because our legs were already worn out from the parks. I dont think it takes 15 minutes to walk any where, more like 5 minutes. When your at Disney you walk and walk so it does seem longer when your in a large resort.

If you look at the resort maps you'll see at POR it's along a river with a few bridges connecting to main area. So you don't have to walk around the entire resort to get to food court.
And at POR the main pool, and main building is next to each other. At CSR the pool is not near main building.

We book the mansion section of POR, and aside from the last building Parterre Pl, which is now the Princess rooms, all the mansions are a quick and very enjoyable walk away from amenities.

I haven't stayed at CSR so can't comment on length of walking.

Everyone here is giving you good advice. If you don't want a long walk, I would recommend getting a Preferred Room and then put in a room request to be as close to the food court/lobby as possible. If you are terribly worried, then you could always try a reservation at POFQ, which is the smallest resort at Disney. It is actually cheaper than the other two and you can still easily walk over to POR if you feel like it. Good luck on your decision!:yay:

We stayed at CSR, and I think the reports of long distances to walk was GREATLY exaggerated! We stayed in the Ranchos section, at the very back of the section right next to the parking lots, and still the walk to El Centro was fairly short, IMHO. It was a short walk from Ranchos to the main pool (where you can get your mugs refilled), and from there another short walk to El Centro.

Also staying in the very "back" of CSR made it very easy to get to the bus stops. There were two bus stops about 2 minutes walk from our room.

We stayed in June and took a very leisurely walk around the resort after dinner one night. We walked the entire path around the resort and then some and it took 14 minutes. Can't remember exactly why we timed it.

We stayed at POR this past January and our walk to the mail pool was less than 5 minutes. There were also many "quiet pools" scattered throughout; the closest one being probably 7 minutes from our room. We were located in the Alligator Bayou. The walk to the main building was probably 7 minutes as well.
We had the same reservations about the resort as well because everyone said the walk to ages but when we got there we realized how close everything really was.
Hope it helps!

The distance is subjective. The 10 minute walk maybe a 20 minute walk for someone. Short distance to someone may be a mile to another. If I'm not mistaken, CSR has an internal bus service that goes around and around the resort. So if you're at the Ranchos, you can take the internal bus and be dropped off at the lobby. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know at CBR has internal bus and POR doesn't. It really depends on what building they put you in that will make distance near or far from the lobby.

If you go with CSR, I would request the Cabanas. If you go with POR, I would request bldg 16 or 17 or Magnolia.

You can't go wrong with either one really. Just go with the theme. Which theme would you prefer? Southern Bayou or the Southwest style?

Hi everyone- I registered to thank you all for your help in planning our first Disney trip. I've bee home about 10 minutes.

I wanted to mention that I read a lot about the walking at CRS resort and thanks to some posters here I requested Cabana section A. Just for fun I timed out walks and it was about 1 minute to the bus stop, a minute and half to the food court and the same to the dig site. The quiet pool was right outside our door. That section was absolutely perfect, IMO.

I don't know that I would want to stay in the Ranchos? as that seemed like a long walk but Cabanas were great. I hope that helps and thanks to all of you for your great advice.

P.S- I now understand Brazilians:) Even tho, South Americans would be a more accurate description.

Thank you ALL so much for the responses. It's VErY helpful.

One more thing. We were also talking about wanting to try more of the table service restaurants at the resorts instead of inside the parks. My question is, is it a pain to get back and forth between the other resorts? Do we have to take a bus to one of the parks and then another bus back to our hotel? Or do the buses run to other resorts themselves? Does that make sense?

I agree ... I see this alot on these boards. I did some iphone GPS/time studies on our last trip and some of the times people "remembered" it taking were up to twice what it actually took us.

Great choice! :thumbsup2 I love the Cabanas section! I love walking across the bridge. You're not that far from the food court nor the Dig Site. :) Ranchos is too far in my opinion. Enjoy!

It is kind of a pain in the butt. There is no bus that will take you directly to another resort. You must take a bus to a park, and from there you must hop on another bus to take you to the resort you want to be at. So if you have a reservation at AK, you might want to take a bus to AKL, then from there, you can hop on another bus to bring you to AK.

Buses do not run from one resort to another. You would have to take a bus to a park or DTD and transfer to the other resort from there and then vice versa to get back to your home resort. Easiest thing to do is get a cab!

POR
would get my vote
1.Having the boat available to get to DTD to shop and eat or even a evening movie.
2. Horse drawn carriage rides available for purchase.
3. Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory
4. Scat Cat's Club
5. smallest Disney resort
6.The Pool,,,Doubloon Lagoon

Hugs Mel

Thanks again. We went to DTD on our last trip and I doubt we will go back again. We didn't really want to shop and we only ate lunch there (Wolfgang Puck's Express and it was fantastic). We really want to spend more time in the parks but we don't like the park food, so we were hoping to eat at the resorts for almost all dinners, except we do want to eat in Epcot. So we are trying to plan our days and ADR's.

I guess no matter what, we will have to travel a lot to get to the other resorts, no matter where we stay.

Try POFQ, it's compact, quiet, great pool, awesome boat ride to DTD!

I'm so happy for you posters on here. The more you kept mentioning POFQ, the more started thinking that although we weren't thrilled with DTD before, it might be a wonderful option for dinner and having a boat to take us there is a bigger plus. We read nothing but amazing reviews on MANY sites last night about POFQ and on the Tripadvisor site, it was ranked #33 out of 354 Disney HOtels. The CRS was ranked #156. POR was ranked 73, so we are going with the smaller of the resorts (POFQ) and I'm so happy. I wanted something quiet and peaceful after spending all day in the parks. The grounds look amazing and the rooms look nice too.
